Hi all

I’ve decided to change from the Royal Free and am looking for anyone who has recent experience giving birth at St Mary’s please!

Thanks in advance

I don’t have experience if the birth centre as I had an elective section there.

Waiting times for scans and appointments are long. I used to be there for hours on end waiting. Some of the appointments with midwives were held at a clinic near Notting hill rather than at the hospital. It was okay.

I had my DD in the St Mary’s birth centre in 2015. I can’t fault the experience - the centre is clean and modern, the staff were great and we had a private room with double bed to recuperate in afterwards! The other advantage is that if you end up needing an epidural/c section they can just take you up in the lift to the labour ward (I didn’t need this, but was glad the option was there). I really recommend it.

Thanks both! @bookworm14 yes I like that the labour ward is close by.

The birth centre rooms there look really good compared to the Royal Free and it generally sounds a bit more calm and smaller. I’m only 20 weeks but had quite a mixed experience with staff at the RF so far and it’s just so massive and clinical there.

I have the same experience (switched RF for St Mary’s but pretty sure I will not try anything without an epidural. Has anyone experienced the labour ward at St Mary’s ? Many thanks in advance!
