I am also very impressed with your organisation @StephD2020!! I’ve brought my hospital bag and made a list but that’s as far as I’ve got.

When did you tell your midwife that you wanted to have a home birth? I’m 29 weeks - would it be too late to ask whether a home birth is an option do you think? X

2020Aug · 11/06/2020 18:50

I did my hospital bag last week, I like to be organised so thought I'd just get on an do it. I was wondering whether to pack a little cardigan type thing, I know it'll be August but was wonder whether they might need one if it's a little chilly. Are others taking anything like this?

I had an ache at the bottom of my bump last night, bit like period pains. It eased this morning but is back now, I wondered if it was a side effect of the iron tablets I was put on last week as they're definitely not being too kind to my digestive system 🙈. Or if I over did it working out or whether its something else and to call triage! Going to lie down and see if it eases.

JMill13 · 11/06/2020 19:29

I'm planning on taking a cardigan in my hospital bag but I live in Northern Ireland and due near the end of August so its likely be chilly, and I guess we don't know if it'll be a day or night birth/going home so could be chilly in the evening.

Only thing I have ready for my hospital bag so far is baby clothes and shampoo/conditioner and I only have the shampoo/conditioner because i got a free sample of each when I bought a massive bottle of each so that was handy. Going to sit this weekend and actually write a list of everything I need.

Bert2020 · 11/06/2020 19:56

I can’t for the life of me work out how much to pack for either of us. I will be induced and will have to stay 24 hours minimum after baby arrives. If things with the virus are the same I need enough to see us through. Also, not sure what sizes to take for baby. Is it just 1 sleepsuit you have packed @StephD2020? If so I would take another just incase it gets dirty.
Sorry to hear of the back aches, it’s miserable when you can’t get comfortable.

Oldestchild90s · 11/06/2020 20:05

@squashie34 Personally if you are unsure maybe give them a call. I always feel like i am bothering them but it's better to be safe than sorry! But then again like you said it may just be the yoga especially if you haven't done it for a while.

Does anyone feel really icky? All day i've felt really heavy (its the only way i can describe it) literally like the feeling before a period, needed to go to the loo a billion times and dare i say it... discharge... has increased quite a lot and makes me feel worse.

Blimey ladies haven't thought about the hospital bag yet 🙈

squashie34 · 11/06/2020 21:22

@Oldestchild90s you've just described to a T how I feel today (and then just add in the backache!) keep checking in the loo for fluid/plug as it just feels like when you're waiting to start your period, feel really uncomfy, heavy and just generally a bit sh**! Had a bit of an upset stomach too (sorry if tmi!) maybe it's a thing we all get at a certain point?

I went for a 4D scan today as had it booked already and she seemed happy enough in there, generally being a diva and wriggling around with good amount of fluid around so I'm just going to try and get a good sleep tonight and if I don't feel better in the morning I will ring them.

Beau2020 · 11/06/2020 21:36

@squashie34 awww I loved our 4d scan!

Had my hospital bag for weeks now but that's just because I'm nervous about going into labour early 😂🙈

MamaFirst · 11/06/2020 21:53

Eeeek it's so exciting, we are getting nearer ladies!! I haven't even thought about my hospital bag yet though!

I know you've all been talking longer, but would you like to say how many weeks you are and if you have any other children? It sounds like this is the first baby for most of you?

I'm 28 weeks, fourth baby ☺️

squashie34 · 11/06/2020 21:58

@Beau2020 aren't they just the most magical things?! I'd always thought they looked quite weird but we booked one so my OH could actually see her as it's been 12 weeks and it hasn't really been plain sailing in that time, but oh my gosh just seeing them in there looking like a real person, I could have watched all day! Did you get some gorgeous pictures?

StephD2020 · 11/06/2020 22:00

Thanks ladies - I'm a super organised person anyways so having had my bag packed from 27 weeks was to be expected! Just been waiting on some newborn bits but they've finally arrived so just adding the last finishing touches 🥰

@2020Aug I'm not taking a cardigan but I am taking a blanket for her - we live in London so in the event she is chilly I'll just pop the blanket over her rather than a cardigan.

@bert2020 I've got a sleepsuit, body suit, hat and a pair of scratch mitts as an outfit and I have three of these. I thought one for when she first arrives when she is covered in all sorts, one for changing into later and a going home outfit. That should be enough right? As for me I've got my nightdress/bikini to give birth in (depending on land vs water) then I have a night dress and a set of loose fitting pjs with a matching dressing gown for being stuck in hospital. Then nearer the time I'll pop a going home outfit in for me when I know what the weather is gonna be like.

@flutterbunny defo not too late to discuss home births! My trust are it officially reinstating them just yet but I have been referred. I think they might be waiting on more guidance. Although interestingly the woman running my online NCT classes (who is a midwife at my local birth centre) basically hinted at telling them my anxiety was going through the roof about a hospital birth as it's those women and women who don't have any support/childcare at home that are getting accepted first. Also you can tell them you intend to free birth and as you're on their service they still have a duty of care to come out to you. So not ideal but ways round the current nonsense. X

StephD2020 · 11/06/2020 22:02

@MamaFirst I'm FTM, due 2 Aug with a little girl. 🥰

sel2223 · 11/06/2020 22:05

@Beau2020 @squashie34 I've got a 4d scan tomorrow. Never thought I wanted one but changed my mind and very excited now!

2020Aug · 11/06/2020 22:09

I honestly don't know what I'd do without my pregnany pillow @sel2223, I've had it since about 16 weeks 😂. Hope it helps you.

Hi @mamafirst I'm a FTM and 31+2 weeks.

heroineinahalfshell · 11/06/2020 22:09

@MamaFirst I'm 30+5, FTM. Weirdly even though I have an existing back injury so thought I'd struggle with pain during pregnancy, I've had no back pain at all. Bery strange!

I've put all my hospital bag stuff together but not actually packed it. For the baby I'm taking 3 sleepsuits & 3 vests, a friend is crocheting a little hat for me, and another friend handed down the most adorable hand knitted cardigan so I'm taking that even though I doubt she'll need it.

I'm also taking a personalised sleepsuit that says "Hello world, I'm Caroline" on it (only a tenner from Next!), which I'm hoping to use for first photo/announcement. As long as we don't change our minds on her name between now and then!

squashie34 · 11/06/2020 22:15

@sel2223 I'm so excited for you! You're going to love it 😍 let us know how it does x

Bert2020 · 11/06/2020 22:38

@StephD2020 perfect sense! I do hope you get to stay at home though. Makes sense to be prepared just incase and also someone pointed out to me even if you are home birthing having everything packed in one place means everything is on hand for you.

I’m expecting my second and almost 30 weeks Shock to expected to deliver around 37 though.

sel2223 · 11/06/2020 22:55

@squashie34 I'm excited too....I'll update tomorrow 🙂

@2020Aug I got the one you recommended a while back on this thread. Can't wait to try it out.

@MamaFirst I'm 31 weeks, FTM due 13th Aug but will be having a planned section at 38/39 weeks.

Beau2020 · 11/06/2020 22:59

@squashie34 SO magical! We loved ours and she stuck her tongue out and did other cute little gestures for us for us to keep forever ❤️ So glad we did it just to see her little face cheered us up during such a dull time xx

Bubblesbebe · 12/06/2020 07:30

Hi again!
I am now 29+1 weeks, FTM expecting a boy due on 27/08.

For those of you that have been to the 4d scans... are they running as normal and partners are now allowed?
Would love to book one, as my partner missed the 20 weeks scan. Any recommendations of places in London?

Thanks!

MamaFirst · 12/06/2020 08:27

Aw thanks for all the replies ladies, such an exciting time!

We had a 4d scan for one of my babies, it was the most amazing thing ever! I remember her nose looking massive, but the doctor reassured me they normally do haha! So lovely, enjoy!

JMill13 · 12/06/2020 08:46

@mamafirst I'm 30 weeks today, FTM due 21st August.

Crazy how close its actually getting to August, when this all started it felt like lightyears away now we're going to blink and our like babas are going to start appearing.

4D scans freak me out so much but in really want to see baby again. Do you reckon you can have one and not find out the sex?

Superscientist · 12/06/2020 08:51

Another FTM here, we are expecting a girl on the 17th Aug 30+4 weeks.

I have made a start on my maternity bag, it so far has a nightie, thin dressing gown and my first batch of cloth postpartum pads in. I'm waiting for the appointment with my consultant next week to pack properly as I've been doing some reading and she might need monitoring for med withdrawal for 3 days. I want to know how long to pack for before properly packing.

Flutterbunny · 12/06/2020 09:28

Aww @JMill13 - I’m 30 weeks today too with a due date of 21st August - we are due date buddies! FTM too!

I would also be interested to know if the 4d scan would give the game away re. the sex although my OH isn’t too bothered about having a scan - when I asked him he said “what do we want that for?” Hmm

heroineinahalfshell · 12/06/2020 10:20

@JMill13 we've got a private scan booked tomorrow and it's not 4D, just a normal scan. I didn't want to do 4D as it also freaks me out, but wanted to see her again and for DH to be there as he missed the 20w.

JMill13 · 12/06/2020 10:40

@flutterbunny ah class, love meeting people with the same due date.

I'd love to get another scan but maybes not 4D. Though not sure if OH is bothered, his logic is sure we'll see plenty of it once it's born 😂
