NHS Scan cancelled due to coronavirus

I had NHS scans booked for 17+4, 20 and 29 weeks have received a letter saying my 20 week scan has been cancelled and will now be a telephone appointment. Is 17+4 too early for anomaly scan? FTM so not really sure what is norm :(

Where are you? The NHS England standard requires that you are offered an anomaly scan between 18+0 weeks and 20+6, yes 17+4 is too early. Are you calculating the gestation in the same way as them? Have a look at your earlier scan & see what they gave as gestation then
It would be quite unusual to have scans at 17+4 or at 29 weeks. It sounds like there may be a muddle somewhere. I suggest you ring and query it on Tuesday

Regardless of Covid-19 20 week anomaly scans must go ahead as they are extremely important for you and baby.
Unless you have Covid-19 or self isolating due to you having symptoms then that would be the only way they would rearrange your scan.
Like pp said, check your dates for gestation.
Did they say why you're having a 28 week scan too? I'm not having another scan now following my 20 week scan, so unless something popped up on your 12 week scan and they need to keep an eye on you and baby, it's the only reason I can think of as to why you are having so many scans?

@Sussexmidwife @lockdownpregnancy
Thanks for the replies :) I know it seems absolutely bizarre to me. I am having extra scans due to previous experiences which were all booked in at my 12 week scan. I am going by my dates given at my first scan (was dated 12 weeks bang on)

This is very odd! Definitely contact your midwife

RoseAndRose · 25/05/2020 07:14

Contact your MW, they have cancelled the wrong one.

I thought the general plan was to go back to 12 week and 20 week only

I should be having growth scans during my pregnancy due to complications in my previous pregnancy. I have been told all growth scans are cancelled due to coronavirus unless something wrong is picked up by midwives. This is against the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists own advice for how to manage services during the pandemic. Do some digging and see what they recommend for your situation (for growth scans they recommended differently for different conditions). If you feel something is wrong or not safe push harder. I'm currently trying to get myself and my baby the care we are entitled to.

I think there's been a mistake....out of all those scans, this is the last one that should be cancelled! I know they're cancelling people's 'extra' scans but the 12 and 20 week ones should be going ahead as they are classed as essential.
The anomaly scan should be between 18 and 21 weeks....if it's before that, there are certain things they won't be able to check yet.
Give them a call and I'm sure they'll sort it out.

Just an FYI really to advise what’s going on in my Trust - thought it might be helpful to know for comparison.
I’m having additional scans due to maternal age (I’m 40) - those are scheduled for 32,35 and 38 weeks. I had my 12 and 20 week scans before Coronavirus occurred. Since Coronavirus, all of my appointments have occurred face to face, both with midwifes at a health centre and with the Consultant/Registrars at the hospital. I am based in Manchester. The only changes have been that I have to attend all of my appointments and scans alone.
I wouldn’t have accepted my 20 week scan being cancelled as it’s arguably the most important - I’d call and get that sorted out, even if you have to escalate matters. I would question why National guidance/protocol isn’t being followed by your Trust.

I think it depends where you are - I am still having growth scans, I've had 6 so far and have another 2 booked in. Definitely ask when your anomaly scan will be done.
