Has anyone been reliant on nasal sprays then found out they were pregnant? Did you stop? Carry on using it ?

Hey what nasel spray are you using ? I use the sea water one and my doctors said that one is perfectly safe .

I use a vicks one, I’ve used it the last 3 years and just ruined my nose as a result. I was meant to be having surgery just as lockdown happened and it was postponed and now I’m pregnant I definitely can not have it, I have tried the sea water one but it doesn’t work because the only thing that helps my nose is the vicks one! Apparently there is not a lot of studies on it in pregnant women so they say to avoid.

So from when I asked my doctors if I could use a nasel spray They said not enough research has been done between the ingredients of phenylephrine and phenylpropanolamine which is why we ask for it to be avoided . Something to do with pre- clampsia or restrictive blood flow . ( I am not a doctor but my nose always feels bunged up and then I get a cough so I wanted to know if I could continue to use allergy tabs and nasel sprays )

How far pregnant are you ? You should call your doctors and see what you can use instead . For now I would just stop :( I know it’s uncomfortable

Hi - which spray are you using and how many times a day?

LanaT26 · 26/05/2020 09:44

It’s a vicks Sinex soother, the ingredients are Oxymetazoline.
Before I knew I was pregnant I used this pray every 3 hours 3 spray per nostril and now I’ve cut it down to 1 squirt each nostril late afternoon and 1 squirt before bed. I’m trying to cut it out so today cut the late afternoon one out and then cut the bed time one out. I’m really struggling with going cold turkey I’m on a steroid nasal spray prescribed but it can take up to 2 weeks to work. My nose is just terrible, after about 8 hours it gets so blocked it’s like my nostrils have been tapped shut. It’s awful.
