I was 29 weeks when I had my first growth scan, and I was told my baby was small because early growth restriction ( she is weighing under 1.9 pounds) and I had gestational diabetes which I am checking my blood levels and watching what I eat and that I was also had low iron and now I am on iron tablets, and top all of this I have treated under active thyroid before I became pregnant. This pregnancy has me very stressed. I am now 31 weeks and just need to talk someone who have similar situation as me and advice

My situation wasnt the same but my baby was small and born at 36 weeks as a result she was predicted 4lb but come out 5lb 7.i had twice weekly growth scans and dopplers inbetween.
They told me that some babys are growth restricted and some are just small they assess which by doing a few growth scans to see if they are following a line in the growth chart. Have they given you a plan. Please try not to worry i know its really hard i was worried too.

Hi thank you for responding to my post, yes that’s true is worrying, they started a plan, by doing a 2 week growth scan, scans could more shorter than 2 weeks depending what they see on the growth scan this Tuesday coming, see if she has grown or not grown

Aww good luck hun

Shaunieh95 · 24/05/2020 19:29

Hi hun!

I had this with both of mine both born at 37 1 and 37 2 weighing 5lb 6 and 5lb 3, although tiny both heathy and only required a couple of nights in!!

Try not to worry too much, it's much more common than what you think. Have you being put on aspirin?

Missy202 · 24/05/2020 19:46

I feel so much better about the support I been receiving and others sharing their experiences too, as I just join mumsnet.com today!

Anyway .. they have not put me on any aspirins yet, I got my growth scan this Tuesday which will tell me why my baby not growing as expected. The reassuring thing for me is people with similar experience you can have a small and healthy baby against the odds of having growth restrictions, this is keeping me hopeful about my own baby.

UPDATE: I have now given birth to a very healthy baby girl, who was 6 pounds, despite having gestational diabetes, low iron, growth restrictions, under active thyroid! I feel so bless to have her so healthy and well

Ah congratulations OP! šŸŽ‰ Love to hear a happy ending!

Just found this thread as I’m currently 33w with GD and a small baby, so going through the twice weekly dopplers and fortnightly growth scans etc. My previous DD was born 37w, was only 5lbs and healthy, so hoping for the same happy outcome this time!

Anyway, enjoy your lovely newborn OP! šŸ’•
