I read somehwere its safe to eat Mozarella - does that also go for Bufallo mozarella? I love the stuff and have a real craving for it. I know you should stay clear of unpasteurized cheese, but I can't always find this info on the labelling... can anyone help?

i'm sure mozzarella is fine.

PippiLangstrump · 20/09/2007 13:20

I'm sure it's fine. it should say pasturised somewhere on the packet.

(yesterday I ate a brie and spek-ham panino - I completely forgot all about it!! when I realised a few hours later I could not believe it.)

loisstella · 20/09/2007 13:50

pippi - not all brie is not pasteurised either... so if it came from a sandwich shop you have a pretty good chance it was fine anyway!

thanks loisstella. I'm sure it'll be fine. I wasn't feeling that great yesterday and could not sleep thinking it might be that bit of brie! a bit irrational, but that pg for you!

buffalo mozzarella is not pasturised... regular mozzarella is. Cooked mozzarella is fine.

loisstella · 21/09/2007 10:30

honeyapple - I thought that was the case and am very pleased to have the confirmation... thanks!

Oh well, I ate loads of buffalo mozzarella while being pregnant, whoops. Will it come out with 2 heads now do you think?

loisstella · 21/09/2007 10:59

Thomcat - LOL I guess i need to lighten up about these things a little... I had some duck pate the other day and freaked out. My midwife said that unless I ate a pound of it there's no harm.

really? ate loads of buffalo one as well. as an italian I should know these things.
mind you with first pg I did eat about a kg of parma ham... I just could not resist.

it's quite refreshing to hear other people's f/ups tbh. In my head everyone else is super virtuous and I am the only one who put my own gluttony before my mini-child!!

loisstella · 21/09/2007 15:02

parma ham is crued - therefore not raw therefore allright is my moto... I'm sure its wrong, but I love the stuff every now and then.

the cheese thing is a bit silly IMO - there have been three cases of liseria based disease in uk in last ten years. one was from cheese, one from butter and one from lettuce
