Can I choose method of induction?

Just a quick one really - being induced for second baby next week.
First baby I was induced with the gel and went into labour v quickly (30 minutes from insertion). Labour was then “quick” for a first baby - 11 hours and 20 min of pushing. Very straightforward no complications.

When I spoke to my consultant last week she said when I get to the labour ward next week they will monitor for an hour make sure baby and I are both happy then insert the pessary which can take up to 24 hours.

Am I able to ask for the gel instead as it really worked well for me last time?

With my first my waters had gone the day before and I seem to remember them saying that the gel works quicker and they wanted me to deliver baby sooner rather than later to minimise risk of infection due to having lost my waters.
This time I am being induced a week early due to severe pelvic girdle pain. So I guess it doesn’t matter that I have a fast labour but surely if the gel worked so well for me last time they would use it again for me?

You should be part of all decisions made about your care in labour. I can’t see why they wouldn’t go for your preference. Good luck, and congratulations on your pregnancy xxx

Hi, I'm being induced on wednesday and they are starting with the balloon for 24 hours and if that doesn't work they will then use the gel. If they have both items and you have a preference, I cant see why they wouldn't listen to you and your choice. I didnt ask as this is my first and I dont have a preference.

They may not use the gel anymore (my trust don’t), it may have less prostaglandin than the pessary and therefore less likely to work (your waters had broken last time so body would react differently). However yes you should be involved in discussion
