Consultant led care help?

Hey! First time mum here with low Papp-A. I've just got a letter for my 20 week scan in a few weeks and it mentions a consultant. I was just wondering what to expect really? Little bit scared of the anomaly scan as it is and seeing someone more senior makes me feel even more nervous (although I know I should be thankful I'm being closely looked after).

I'm consultant led and have had extra appointments around 15 and 28 weeks. It's mostly just a chat but they so check BP, urine, bloods etc which I found reassuring as a lot of midwife appts have been cancelled.
I've only seen the actual consultant for a few minutes, most of it has been with a registrar.

@sel2223 that's definitely a perk cause it's been worrying me not having the normal midwife checks for BP etc. Just fills me with dread the thought though, honestly I'm such worry wart 😂

I am/was consultant led and I had to have an appointment after the 20 week scan. If possible they like to do them on the same day so you don't have to travel to the hospital twice. My consultant wasn't running a clinic that day so I had it at 22 weeks. This appointment was over the phone so I didn't have to travel to the hospital again as my reasons for being consultant led didn't require me to be seen in person.
They checked how I was doing, if I had any concerns etc. They were happy and didn't request a follow up hence me being unsure about whether I'm still consultant led.

@Superscientist interesting! I know mines definitely the same day. Just didn't think I'd be consultant led until my 28 week growth scans. But I guess it makes sense. I don't know why it makes me so nervous though.

I'm glad yours went well though and your scans are fine xxxx

Just a chat after your scan where they will review it make a plan going forward etc

I had my first appointment around the time of my 12 week scan (again different day - my consultant only runs the clinic every other Friday).
They did the usual blood pressure and urine tests and made sure I was aware of the risks and spoke a bit about what support there was. We discussed the medication I take and whether my other doctors and myself were happy for me to stay on it (yes). They would have referred me to a perinatal specialist for my condition but I have a gp that is on the ball so that referral had already been sent.
The appointment was with a junior doctor but the consultant popped in at the end to introduce herself and the junior doctor gave her a quick overview to make sure nothing was missed and that the consultant agreed with the plan.

I was a bit nervous prior to the first appointment but it was more of a let's make sure we have things in place before we need them sort of thing. It will be obviously different depending on reasons for being consultant led but this was my experience.

I have low Papp A, but was already consultant led due to my age. There is a support group on Facebook you can join that is really friendly and helpful at putting your mind at ease. www.facebook.com/groups/129843767631323/?ref=share
You will probably stay consultant led and have extra growth scans, which is what I assume they will discuss with you after your 20 week scan. All trusts are different but I had scans at 28 and 33 weeks and have a final one next week at 38 weeks. Try not to worry to much most pregnancies with low Papp A have no growth issues at all.

I’m also a first time mum and consultant led due to having a heart condition. I’ve got my first appointment next week at 13+5 and just had my first scan last week. It looks like we will be in good hands reading everyone’s replies. The receptionist did say that the appointment may end up being over the phone though, I was hoping to get my blood pressure and urine tested during the appointment. x

@Flipflops23 thank you! Yeah I already knew I was having the extra growth scans. I just didn't think I'd have a consultant appointment until my 28 week one for some reason. Just me being a bit daft haha. I've been sick with worry since I found out after my 12 week scan. And I'm especially nervous for my 20 week one in two weeks, so I was just a bit scared to have to see someone extra 😂x
