28 weeks pregnant measuring small

Im 28 weeks pregnant and my current fundal height measurement is 19cms instead of 28cms. I was already booked in for a growth scan (as I have epilepsy) tomorrow anyways but it’s made me slightly nervous. Does anyone if the baby is small what will happen? Do they just keep an eye on things?

I don't know exactly but I'm in the same boat so I know the worry. I wasn't given an exact measurement but my doctor said I'm measuring small and booked a growth scan. From my understanding they just plan to keep an eye on it. I hope all goes well

Thank you for replying, it’s nice to know someone else who’s in the same position. When is your growth scan?

Not for a couple weeks so I have to wait. They're having doctors work less days a week and are scheduling less than normal because of the pandemic. But I'm hoping the fact that they didn't try to get me in earlier means they aren't too worried.

If baby is measuring small, they will keep an eye on you and have you in for regular growth scans to track the progress

Daisy95 · 21/05/2020 18:44

Thank you all for your replies, @Camia I hope your scan goes well in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know if baby continues to measure small what they do then?

I had a similar situation when pregnant with my daughter but later in my pregnancy.
I measured slightly under average at every measure, then between my week 32 and 34 measure my bump didn’t grow. So they booked me for a growth scan, and said my daughter was just small but they would do another at 36 weeks.
When they did that one her tummy hadn’t grown much so I was booked in for an induction.
I would say if they think baby is on the small side they will do growth scans every couple of weeks and induce if absolutely needed but they try to keep baby in until atleast 37 weeks. But don’t worry you’ll be in the safest hands and they will do what’s best for baby! X

@WillowsMum21 thank you so much, that makes sense! 😊 x

I wouldn't worry too much, I have 2 children that are classed as SGA and had weekly scans from 28 weeks one for growth and one for cord flow my youngest is a FGR baby he stopped growing at 36 weeks and I was induced with him at 38 weeks but all 3 are perfectly healthy, once you have had growth scans a consultant will start to put plans in place regarding how long they want to keep baby in there, if baby grows steadily at each scan then they will just keep a close eye on baby if baby drops off or doesn't move along the centile they will most likely induce. I'm now pregnant with number 4 and they are being very overly cautious with this baby, I'm not going full term, I'm having growth and cord scans plus weekly assessments are triage to check heartbeat and movements and blood thinners from 28 weeks and consultant from 16 weeks, luckily I'm only 8 weeks at the moment so still a while before I'm in and out of hospital all the time lol

Good luck I'm sure all is well Grin x

I've had scans 20, 21, 24, 27 and 31 weeks. Baby has measured small at all of them, at least one week behind on some measurements and sometimes even 2 weeks behind.

At my scan yesterday because baby dropped from 15th to 5th centile they want to see me every 2 weeks for a scan now and have told me to rush straight in if I experience reduced movements as it could indicate issues with the placenta.

Both my previous babies were SGA so consultants aren't overly worried. It's made me a bit anxious though. I'm preparing for them not wanting me to go to 40 weeks. So fully expecting them to want me induced between 37-39 weeks.

@Daisy95 I also have epilepsy and just read your message and was just wondering are you having the growth scan due to having epilepsy as I haven't been offered this only the general one at 36 weeks?

Daisy95 · 22/05/2020 10:03

@Bellsx yes I am under consultant led care and was already booked to have growth scans every 4 weeks starting at 28 weeks due to the epilepsy.

Thank you all for your reassurance it’s really helped a lot 😊

@Daisy95 ah I see, I'm also under consultant care and classed as a high risk pregnancy but haven't been offered any other scans 🤔 I take lamotrigine for my epilepsy but have only ever had one fit, how about you?

Daisy95 · 22/05/2020 11:45

@Bellsx that’s strange, I am on keppra, have been seizure free for nearly 3 years, so not much difference between us. I know it’s in my hospital policy for extra scans so seems odd that you haven’t offered them Hmm x

@Daisy95 umm that is weird then, my only fit was in 2001 and it happened whilst I was on the bumper cars at my local fair so was put down to the strobe lighting. Really don't think I should of been put on medication so early on but hey never mind you just get used to it don't you. My consultant wants me to up my dosage due to a blood test I had done and the results coming back saying that my levels were low so just waiting for my prescription to come through for that but may ask about scans.
