Hi all,

I'm at the end of my tether. I've had no sense of smell or taste for 9 weeks now. I don't think it's coronavirus anymore because of how long it's been. Im 22 weeks pregnant so it started at about 13 weeks. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this as a pregnancy symptom maybe as I'm really anxious it will never return.
Thank you.

I have had dysguesia in all three of my pregnancies and its horrible, but only in this pregnancy did i lose my taste and smell for just over 2 weeks, still not sure if it was covid or not, but dysguesia changes your taste and smell, im nearly 23 weeks and although its not as bad its still there. I dont have any advice unfortunately but ur def not alone.

@Maxwillpop thank you for your reply! Oh bless you, it's not nice is it? Did it go back to normal after birth each time? If somebody could say to me yes it will come back after birth, I would be fine and crack on, it's the not knowing if it will return and if I will ever smell my baby or taste chocolate again that's driving mad!

Can’t help I’m afraid but just wanted to say I’m in a really similar position. Also lost sense of smell 9 weeks ago and it hasn’t returned. I did have some other Covid like symptoms which made me think it was that but surely it would have returned by now. I’m 23 weeks now so started at a similar point in pregnancy too. It’s 2nd baby and didn’t have it with first pregnancy, so hard to understand what it is. I know exactly what you mean about just wanting to know if it will return!

Hi @Leadust92 ! I am 9+4 and I have dysgeusia so badly. Not a loss of taste but rather a vile bitter taste constantly gushing into my mouth making me really sick. I do know taste issues are common in pregnancy as I spoke to my midwife. Out of all of my symptoms this is the worst as I can't escape it - no matter how many times I suck mints or boiled sweets. Maybe ask for a covid test to make sure? But I do know that taste problems are very common in pregnancy!

@May07 it's so frustrating isn't it? I think I'm going to ring the doctors and see what they say tomorrow so I'll update you! Hope you get it back soon, seems odd round the same time too.

@kidsareok oh bless you that sounds awful. How strange the things pregnancy can do! Is there nothing they can give you for it? Hope it eases for you soon.

@Leadust92 yes after both my previous children it went back to normal very late on in pregnancy, it makes me hate chocolate (and normally i adore chocolate) there is nothing that can be done its hormones that cause it just something your body does when pregnant to some people never heard of too many that have it, i would call the docs if i were u n just have a chat with them, hopefully its just a side affect of pregnancy for u and will return to normal xx

Hello may I ask when it went

All my food taste and smell disgusting I'm currently 13 + 2 and wondering when this will go I'm struggling to find things to eat x

Leadust92 · 14/05/2021 11:47

Hi @123jayne
I’m still not fully recovered and my daughter is 7.5 months. I do believe it was caused by covid now as I’ve found a Facebook sight with thousands of people in the same position. Mine has someone got better in that the rotten meat smell/taste has gone and some things taste ‘better’ but I still don’t have a normal sense of taste and smell. It’s been 1 year and 2 months for me but I’m hoping it will come back at some point fingers crossed. It’s called long covid I believe. Congrats on your pregnancy Smile hope your taste and smell come back sooner than mine.

Oh really that's a long time .. do you did you have covid when you was pregnant ? Or before I had covid about 2 months before I was pregnant I really hope it goes soon for you x

Leadust92 · 14/05/2021 13:50

I was never tested because the smell and taste thing wasn’t a symptom then, so I’ve just self diagnosed. I was about 13 weeks pregnant when I lost my senses so I think it was during x
