Do midwives ring on a private number?

I had a missed call earlier with no caller ID and no voicemail... have been worrying since and have not had a call back. I had my last appointment with bloods two weeks ago, i would have heard last week if anything was wrong I think? I don’t have any of the midwives numbers as I’ve seen a different one every time, and can’t even remember their names. Would a midwife leave a message?

Pregnancy anxiety! Argh

100% midwives would leave a message . My midwife usually calls from the hospital landline so it’s not private .

My midwife always calls on a private number and once didn't leave a message so it's possible

ScarfLadysBag · 20/05/2020 15:30

Mine always called on a 'No Caller ID' number but if it's important they'll leave a message or try again!

I'm a midwife, any call we make from a hospital line is a private number and I don't always leave a message due to confidentiality, in case the number is wrong!

My midwives have often used mobiles but yes, in this pandemic I would imagine a private number could easily be used. I agree they would have left a message though.

Health visitors (mobile ones in Buckinghamshire especially) ring from private numbers. If in doubt get a telephone number for them from your mw and you can check.

Medical calls are often from private numbers. So could have been. They might not leave a message, depending on their patient privacy rules, but they would definitely call back.

I don’t know what number I would ring to find out her number! And where I go for midwife appointments is a different place to where I go for scans etc. Thanks for the responses, seems quite likely it’s a midwife and I’ll just wait and see if they call back...

Also a midwife, where I work if it's to do with bloods eg you're anaemic we would send you and your GP a letter as well as ringing. If it's important they will ring you back.

Siobhan1989 · 20/05/2020 21:07

Mine rang earlier... with held number, no voicemail but she rang back later - if it’s important they’ll ring again. Don’t worry 🙂 mine was just to check I don’t have covid before my app tomorrow lol

SpillTheTeaa · 20/05/2020 21:08

How annoying if it was then and they didn't leave a voicemail

MinesAPintOfTea · 20/05/2020 22:58

Some trusts have policies not to leave voicemail as they can't control who hears it and it might be a patient confidentiality issue. But they will ring back if it is

I had the results of my gestational diabetes test and they rang on a withheld number and didn’t leave a message. I actually ignored the first two rings as I’ve somehow wound up on a list for ‘hello, we are calling about your recent accident’ automated calls, but I picked up the third call in case. Was told by the midwife to try and pick up unknown numbers if I’m expecting to hear from the hospital as they won’t leave a message due to confidentiality.

Dollywilde · 20/05/2020 23:07

That said I wouldn’t assume it’s something bad!
