12 week scan but not 12 weeks...

Hi Everyone
I have my 12 week scan booked for 26th May. When my midwife booked the scan she had to roughly guess how many weeks I was as I got pregnant straight after a chemical pregnancy before AF arrived.
I ended up booking a private scan on 3rd May was told I was measuring exactly 8 weeks! This means that when I go to my 12 week NHS scan I will be 11 + 2.
Just have a few questions regarding this if you have been in the same boat as me...

  1. I haven't received a letter confirming the app, do I just go anyway?
  2. Will they be able to do the test for Downs Syndrome, Edward's etc?
  3. Is it likely I will get booked back in a few weeks later for another scan?

I did ask my midwife these questions but she didnt seem very clued up. I'm a FTM so just wondering what to expect.

Thanks in advance xx

I'd ring the scan enquiries number (in notes)/where your having your scan just to confirm your scan date and time. They can do the testing from 10+6 to 13+6 so you'll be fine. You'll then just have your 20 week scan x

Hey Shawla

I ended up only being 10+2 at my 12 week scan.
They can test for abnormalities from 11 weeks so you should be absolutely fine to go by that date l.

Maybe see if you can contact them to double check you are booked in before you go?

I'm not sure if they will give you a 2nd scan or not. I got booked on a second one but that was just because I couldn't have testing done until 11 weeks - so might not be necessary for you if they can do the tests there and then!

Congrats on your pregnancy Smile

They get called the 12 and 20 week scans but they're actually the dating scan and anomaly scan.
Dating scan between 11 and 14 weeks (I was 13+6 at mine) and anomaly scan between 18 and 21 weeks.

You will still get the screening tests unless your baby measures smaller than 11 week, in which case you'll probably be asked to go back for a rescan.

Thank you for all of your replies. I will give them a call to double check :) xx
