Awful acid reflux, can't sleep

In all my pregnancies I've suffered horrible heartburn but it's been something else tonight. Every time I lie down about 40 to 60 minutes go by before I'll cough and have acid refux. So bad I thought I'd be sick but luckily wasn't.
We had tea about 8 which is normal and it was just pork chops nothing spicy. I'm too worried to lie down now incase I am sick.
Had some gaviscon which usually works but same thing.
34 weeks, anyone else experiencing this?

I feel for you. I was the same in my last pregnancy and even water set me off. I emailed the dr and she prescribed something that day. I was great! Took one tablet a day & I never even had a niggle again. I have never had HB out at ore of pregnancy so it does go!

Thanks I'll try and get in touch with the doctor later today.

It's so uncomfortable! Never had it before being pregnant, its especially bad since being in last trimester. The chewable gaviscon tablets seem to help me.

I second getting a prescription, I also can’t remember what it’s called but you literally take one pill a day and forget about fit. Saved my life!

Omeprazole!!! Life saver. I take 20mg a day and can now sleep. Good luck

LJC1234 · 20/05/2020 07:10

Omepralzine! It's literally amazing

mynameiscalypso · 20/05/2020 07:12

Third vote for omeprazole; it was the only thing that got me through the last few weeks!

flissity · 20/05/2020 07:15

I have thistoo, I’m 39 wks.
It’s just awful. I have sick come up in my throat, and the horrible burning feeling, doesn’t matter how long ago I ate.
I do find Gaviscon tablets good as you can keep them in your mouth for quite a while.

You are not alone!!

Prop your bed up on bricks, one under each leg at the head end. I've done that and it helps although doesn't solve it completely.

flissity · 20/05/2020 07:32

Does it go right after birth??
This is my third baby but other 2 were over 8 years ago and I can’t remember

If you eat dinner earlier that might help - I'm the same and I find that if I eat dinner before 7 and then stop eating /drinking altogether it's not a problem. I also try to eat much smaller portions. It is a bit of a pain but I hate taking medication and my Dh has had bad side effects from omeprazole so I'd rather steer clear - I know it's absolutely fine for most people though.

Lying on my left rather than my right has helped me enormously with this (it's to do with the shape of the stomach entrance). On the odd occasion I still suffer, I take an omeprazole.

PAJJ · 20/05/2020 08:59

Omeprazole! I'm 32 weeks and Gaviscon just wasn't cutting it any more for the acid reflux particularly at night. Had a phone consultation with the GP and it's very commonly prescribed in pregnancy. She said there gets a point, where you get bigger and Gaviscon won't work any more (can't remember the science of it).

I've been on letozarole (sp?), peptac liquid and rainitadine since 24 weeks and its been great. Before that it was constant burning and reflux all day and night. I'm 27 weeks now so I expect it to get worse again like it did with my first but it nice to not be in pain right now
