Booking Appointment

Hi,

I took a few pregnancy tests a couple of weeks ago - all were positive, yay! Currently 5 weeks and 3 days. This is my first pregnancy so I really don’t have a clue about anything at this stage!

I completed the online notification for my local hospital last Wednesday and am told I will get a call or letter to schedule the booking appointment (over the phone). I know it will vary in each hospital and, we are living in a strange time at the moment, but how quickly after completing the notification form do you usually hear back from the hospital? My pregnancy doesn’t feel real at the moment so I’m really keen to have the booking appointment and am being a bit impatient 🙈

Thanks!

I got referred by my doctor at 4 weeks and I got my letter about a week and a half before my booking in appointment, so about 2–3 weeks after I was referred. I got my scan date at the same time but some trusts send these separately. If you haven't heard by the time you're 7 weeks then I'd chase.

Oh, and congratulations!

@Williams3001 thank you! That's good to know. I won't chase just yet then. I'm so excited and so nervous, I just want to speak to someone!

I was referred by my GP, i had a phone call from a Midwife around a week later scheduling my booking appointment for the week after :)

I self referred around 5/6 weeks and got a letter around 8 weeks.
The appointment itself was for when I was between 9 and 10 weeks.

I then got my appointment through for my dating scan around 12 and a half weeks (I was 13+6 at scan).

This was all pre Covid.

I had my first midwife appt at 10 weeks, it seemed like such a long wait!! I can remember just wanting to go to that appointment so it felt more official. I imagine your appt will be over the phone, and my midwife also booked my dating scan in for me at that appt :)

Williams3001 · 19/05/2020 12:32

Also, the “8-week” booking appointment is normally around 8–10 weeks and the “12-week” dating scan can be 8–14 weeks, so don’t get too worried about it being too exact.

Thanks everyone! Hopefully in the next week I'll have some news. I'd just like to have something to count down to Smile

Unfortunately, Covid or no Covid, the first few months of pregnancy are very, very quiet.

I didn't see or speak to anyone (doctor midwife etc) until nearly 10 weeks....you're on your own until then which makes it all a bit surreal, especially as a FTM.

I know they are still at the end of the phone and the EPU is there in case of problems but in a 'standard' uneventful pregnancy, there's nothing. You just have to be patient (or go for an early private scan).

I think the midwife fairies were listening to me - just had a call from the midwife to arrange my booking appointment! On the 2 week countdown now Smile
