What kind of ham? You shouldn’t eat cured ham

dementedpixie · 15/05/2020 14:38

Yes. Who says it's bad?

dementedpixie · 15/05/2020 14:39

Cured ham can be eaten if cooked or if frozen for a few days beforehand

Connie222 · 15/05/2020 14:39

Ham is fine!

Except maybe Parma ham, although all my Italian relatives eat it regardless.

Shanlou12 · 15/05/2020 14:40

I think it’s cured ham 😳

Back of packet says cured, formed, cooked, breaded ham Confused

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 15/05/2020 14:42

What does the packet say? Is it ham you'd have on a sandwich?

Shanlou12 · 15/05/2020 14:42

Yea in a sandwich

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 15/05/2020 14:42

That's not cured ham. That bog standard ham you'd eat in a sandwich

Shanlou12 · 15/05/2020 14:42

So I’d that fine?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 15/05/2020 14:43

It says its cooked for a start. Cured ham has not been cooked which is why it should be cooked first or frozen for a few days before eating

Shanlou12 · 15/05/2020 14:44

So it’s fine to eat?? Iv been eating it in a sandwich with coleslaw quite few times

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 15/05/2020 14:45

Cured meats are things like parma ham, pepperoni, salami, serrano ham, etc. They are not cooked. The ham you are eating has been cooked and is safe to eat

otterbaby · 15/05/2020 14:45

The danger with pre-packaged lunch meat is that it might be contaminated with listeria, which is why many organisations recommend heating it to steaming before eating, like in a toastie or panini.

Connie222 · 15/05/2020 14:46

Yes cooked, breaded sandwich ham is fine.

dementedpixie · 15/05/2020 14:47

There is no recommendation in the UK to heat pre packed cold meat before eating unless it is cured meat as shown in the link

Emmagen · 15/05/2020 14:48

Normal ham you'd have in a sandwich is fine.

Parma ham Serrano ham etc aren't cooked so are not ok unless you cook them.

You may well have seen American advice as they recommend pregnant women don't eat any 'deli' style meats. That is not the advice in the uk though.
