I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

@Snowwhite2020 it’s been on and off this week so I’m hoping it’s just a bad week, but if it goes into next week I’ll definitely be giving the midwife and gp another call.

Luckily I’m still furloughed so don’t have the burden of work! Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 17/07/2020 10:07

@MrsJamieLWeir glad you are able to rest at home (and have access to your own toilet when sick) Those things make a real difference. Silver linings xx

Jaysdream7 · 17/07/2020 11:57

Thank you everyone. We are talking about trying again and just riding it out within hospital or with a picc line as our desperation for a third child is so overwhelming. I just don’t know why I literally can’t eat or drink anything. Mine always starts at week 4. Even considered surrogacy but I want to birth my own baby be able to breast feed etc.
God this is tough! Oh well I think I’m going to try on my next cycle. Thanks for people that messaged me. Xxx

Herewegoagainx4 · 17/07/2020 17:49

So glad you could see some blue sky peeking through the grey of hg @JadeBA2 I hope it is a trend that continues, tho it Will likely be a bumpy ride yet!

My scan was yesterday, thanks. Got to see baby who was ever so wriggly and seemed to have arms and legs everywhere! More like a baby octopus! It was really helpful to see baby and feel a bit more connected rather than the sheer misery of hg reality which had been bearing down on me a lot. Am due early Feb.

The scan did pick up that I have a cyst on one of my ovaries so that will be kept an eye on in case it causes any problems.

The downside was it was late afternoon yesterday - a time of day I don't feel good at - so by the time I was back I was completely wiped out. And that on top of struggling to sleep due to night sickness means I am feeling horrendous today. Never mind.

Waves to everyone else, sorry I haven't read through properly x

Snowwhite2020 · 17/07/2020 19:57

@Herewegoagainx4 so glad to hear your scan went well and your baby is a healthy jumping bean! Sorry you are not feeling well and are feeling wiped out. I have had two busier days yesterday and today and I am now feeling very sick and dizzy lying on the sofa. It seems it’s just not possible to push yourself at all (not that I did- more a normal day of business) unless you want the hg to come and hit you in the face... oh dear. 21 weeks and not entirely free of it. It seems it is a very delicate balance of you are slammed back in it. I have to be so careful :/

Hope everyone is resting and getting some fluids tonight xx

LucindaE · 17/07/2020 21:23

Herewegoagain Congratulations on the scan. Sorry that it has had such bad side effects.
Sorry too, to hear about the relapses for SnowWhite2020 and *MrsJamailLWeir'. I can' t improve on that advice.
Wishing alll luck to Jaysdeam7 and better days for everyone.

Hi Lucinda and all I back with a third pregnancy and you really helped support me through my pregnancy with my second son in 2017 so I am
So glad to see this group once again! I am HG warrior my first pregnancy can only
Be described as horrific with lack of knowledge and support.

Here I am again third time I am not yet six weeks and as yet dare I say the vomit hasn’t hit me yet but I am waiting to wake up one day soon to the constant pregnancy hangover for the duration, it’s too much to hope for to feel normal xx

Pygmyseahorse · 18/07/2020 14:13

Hi ladies

I'm sorry I've not caught up yet, so much goes on in so little time!

@Herewegoagainx4 I'm so pleased you had a good scan, I agree it really helps even for just a few minutes

@Snowwhite2020 how are you doing?

(and everyone else of course..)

So.. I'm back if I can keep up!
Eventually got our nipt back, low risk odds are so much lower like 1:100,000 which after 1:33 does feel unbelievable but reassuring as its more accurate.
20 week is almost when I'm 21 weeks so not much longer to wait and see any issues hopefully

We had a private scan so dh could come and it really helped. Experience was much better than NHS is atm just not having the metal barricades and caution stickers everywhere. It helped seeing baby together, and I feel a bit more bonded now too which is a massive relief

Unfortunately the ondansetron is way worse so really struggled this week but Dr calling me Monday morning with hopefully something else to try. I'm using leftover cyclizine atm just out of desperation but it's not touching the sides much.

Started to get a bit more energy at 18 w now but not enough to do anything really, can't go for a walk still as it just triggers the vomiting and dizziness.. Anyone else found that?

Have a nice weekend all x

Snowwhite2020 · 18/07/2020 16:38

Hi @Pygmyseahorse so Nice to log on and hear from you! I am so happy for you that your results came back and you were able to do a private scan with your partner and you’re feeling better :) I’m so happy for you that you are feeling more connected with your bump. You have been through such a journey... one strong hg mum 💪

I’ve been feeling better for the last few weeks with the odd day of nausea and sickness and not feeling too well. Currently having a bad 24 hours and have spent most of it in bed feeling sick and dizzy. The joys! That’s me over 21 weeks now- who said it improves at 12 weeks again???!

Good luck with your nhs scan. I really enjoyed ours but we were lucky and DH was allowed in which did make a difference.

Love to you xx

Pygmyseahorse · 18/07/2020 22:03

@Snowwhite2020 ahh so pleased to hear from you, sorry to hear you are feeling lousy but on the whole slightly better than weeks past
I've definitely learnt that the minute you over do it, even slightly it comes back with a vengeance!! Which is crazy because really, you ladies and my midwife get it but if I were to say to someone.. Oof I'm really feeling it today after cooking dinner and doing laundry they look at me like I'm some crazy lazy person!

Fingers crossed you will feel a little better tomorrow.
Have you found any food or drinks helpful at all?

Yeah pah to all that amazing 2nd trimester, full of energy, back to yourself no sickness or nausea glowing rubbish!!!!

Sending love x

user1477229112 · 19/07/2020 10:21

Hi all hope your all feeling well and don’t mind if I join I’ve Been here previously
In 2017 and have two boys this is baby three and I’m waiting for sickness to start.

Can any one tell me
If they were less sick with one gender or another ?

Or give me hope it gets better by no 3 ? X

Snowwhite2020 · 19/07/2020 14:31

Hi @user1477229112, welcome back! The question of the effect of gender of the baby on HG is something I’m also interested in and have asked around about this a fair bit. Although there is anecdotal info that it’s worse with girl babies I have also spoken to a lot of people who have been worse with boys so I’m not sure 🤷‍♀️ Here’s hoping regardless of sex of the baby that you don’t suffer so much this time.

Have you been to the doctor regarding meds? Many advocate getting them early in order to stop the build up of symptoms. There are some ladies online with this group who could maybe tell you more about that (this is my first baby but for sure I would be going down this route if I was to have any more.) Good luck xx

HGwarrior · 19/07/2020 15:17

I’ve changed my from user1477229112 I contacted the GP early with my last pregnancy and will do that with this one very soon, I am just enjoying symptom free week at the moment I even bought my vitamins Confused not sure who I think I am considering I didn’t manage to
Keep them down the last two times lol
Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 19/07/2020 15:35

@HGwarrior Love the name! 💪 xx

LucindaE · 19/07/2020 22:04

HGWarrior Welcome back. There are a couple of other brave souls on here who are going for it for a third time. You are indeed a veteran now.
Pygmyseahorse I am so glad this other test gave you such a low risk. It was so long ago with me, I am sure that tests have changed hugely since I had them.
My head throbs today, so I wlll just wave to all and wish all well.

Snowwhite2020 · 19/07/2020 22:32

Hope you feel better soon @LucindaE. Have you tried a sports ice pack for the migraines? Perhaps wrapped in a towel or Muslin cloth if the cold too intense? I hope it lifts for you soon. Xx

LucindaE · 20/07/2020 19:13

Mother Hen is back.
SnowWhite2020 Thank you for sympathy. I use a packet of frozen veg, wrapped in a towel. My chiropractor always recommended that followed by a heat pack but in the summer, it doesn't appeal so much.
I am so glad about Pygmyseahorse's good result.
I hope HGWarrior gets away with it this time. After all, a number of previous Hyperemesis sufferers do, to their amazement...
Waves to all.

Glad you are feeling better @LucindaE xx

HGwarrior · 20/07/2020 20:56

I am so glad your feeling better Lucinda you really have no idea how much this group helped me last time around it’s invaluable

I really hope I escape HG this time I’m six weeks today and this pregnancy was unplanned but not unwanted. I was actually finally getting some
Time back for me and had been dieting and exercising and managed to lose ten pounds then all of sudden late period and I’m
Never late I didn’t even think I was pregnant as my symptoms were usually pretty obvious extremely quickly even before I did a test I knew.

I haven’t got sore boobs and apart from
Wanting to eat more the vomiting hasn’t started yet and I am tired. But I know when it does it’ll hit me like a train and I’m so worried about looking After my two boys.

I had a very large dermoid cyst removed shortly after my youngest and do wonder if this contribute to my HG and perhaps This pregnancy will be entirely different. I can only hope I so feel
For all you ladies the happy pregnancy experience is taken away even now I’m worried I’m not vomiting is there something wrong c

Snowwhite2020 · 20/07/2020 21:56

@HGwarrior glad to hear you are still feeling well. Long may it continue! Maybe you will be lucky and avoid it 3rd time round. Xx

IGottaGetThroughThis · 20/07/2020 22:26

Hope everybody is doing as well as can be.
Had my scan today and found out I’m having a second little boy 💙

Talking about sickness and gender .. I was sick with my first boy, and even sicker with my second so I do think having HG makes it hard to actually tell.

Since hitting 20 weeks, I’m still having moments but feel like it’s lifted slightly. So I’m hoping that continues. The bad days are thankfully a lot fewer then the good now.

Sending my thoughts and hugs to all x

Snowwhite2020 · 21/07/2020 18:00

Congratulations @IGottaGetThroughThis! Another boy, how wonderful! 💙 It sounds like your sickness pattern has taken a similar path to mine. I’m nearly 22 weeks and will now have three or four days of feeling really quite well (comparatively with earlier days) and then three or four days of feeling pretty nauseous and sick. I do think the nausea/ sickness is usually accompanied by a big growth spurt from the baby.

So glad for you that you are finding it more manageable. Xx

Snowwhite2020 · 21/07/2020 18:03

@Pygmyseahorse @Herewegoagainx4 @HGwarrior I hope you ladies are all doing ok today. Much love and sympathy to you if not. Xx

mia22221 · 21/07/2020 21:44

Hiya

I hope you all are well

Just a quick question

Since taking this new medicine prochlorperazine I just feel like I'm slowly going back to how I was before taking any medicine

I'm throwing up atleast 3/4 times a day maybe more and constant nauseous

Is this normal?

Or would it be best I contact the doctor and get something else?

LucindaE · 21/07/2020 21:59

HGWarrior I am so glad that this thread helped you last time. Keeping my fingers crossed this pregnancy will be easier for you. Try not to fret that the sickness hasn't started yet! Have you friends and family who could weigh in with the boys?
IGottaGetThroughThis Congratulations on your scan result! I am glad it has lifted slightly, and really hope that it will lift a lot more.
SnowWhite2020 ...and I really hope that that miserable side of the equation lessens soon, and you have far more good days than bad days.
mia22221 Defintitely ask for something else. If it feesl as if you are taking no meds, you certainly need somehting added or another med.
Waves to all.
