I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks for the well wishes, ladies. I'm 10weeks (as of yesterday) and feeling quite low. I've suffered with depression since I was 18 and stupidly came off my AD cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant. I found out at about 3 weeks so had been trying to do my best since then. It really is sad that it is a taboo subject. I've only bee taking them for 2 days now but the idea that they are behind me has already helped.

I'm so sorry everyone is suffering. I know I shouldn't but I'm really looking forward to the 12 week mark.

Love to all xxx

Hi everyone so still no bleeding again today so hoping that it is all because of a urine infection and the antibiotics are working, I really am struggling though with sleep deprivation I am so so anxious and it's kicking of at night went to bed at 11 last night and was still awake at 6-45 this morning I just cannot sleep which is kicking off the acid in my stomach and causing headaches managed to get two hours and now again I feel shattered and I'll today but no matter what I can't ever sleep in the day time. Called my mum at 5 30 am crying at how tired I am saying I need sleeping tablets she told me not to be silly I've never even taken a sleeping tablet but I just feel at desperate stages I just want to sleep. I'm anxious all the time that somethings wrong, anxious that I'm 39 and that my risks are higher etc and worrying about the tests to come as with my daughter it was high risk. Sorry for the moaning feel like this is the only place I can vent it without my husband and family thinking I'm silly as there attidude is 'just relax' believe me I'm trying 😞 hope all ok today, it's this time in the day and I'm not even dressed 😂 lazy day

MrsJamieLWeir · 12/06/2020 15:25

@KatieFTM thank you :) I’m finding it really useful to know I’m not the only one going through it, can be quite lonely can’t it? I also read somewhere on this thread about apple juice, I asked my hubby to pick some up and I’ve managed to get half a glass down me, I was really struggling with water so hopefully this will keep me hydrated! Just heard from my GP and he was really helpful. He’s prescribe me two different anti sickness tablets to take so hopefully these will work, he didn’t sound so optimistic when I said I’m supposed to be going back to work in July 🙈 hope everyone is as okay as they can be :)

Pygmyseahorse · 12/06/2020 16:40

@mrsjamielweir hi, I found cold apple juice a life saver, especially the first few weeks. I can't stomach even half a glass of water but can do with apple juice. I really hope that helps for you. It could be worth trying pear if not, I find that nice and mild. You may also need to try the pressed vs plain sugary clear one to see which helps, I remember that!

Sorry to hear everyone is struggling so much this week :( sending love

MrsJamieLWeir · 12/06/2020 17:27

Thank you :) so far apple juice has stayed down today. I haven’t eaten a single thing today, it’s such a battle isn’t it? I feel so sick I don’t want to eat but I’m hungry but scared to eat. I have such a phobia about being sick so constantly trying to do anything to avoid it but know I can’t and it’s not healthy.. god pregnancy is tough!

Pygmyseahorse · 12/06/2020 18:54

It really is! I don't have a phobia of bring sick, else i probably would have stuck with 1 child! But I can relate to being scared or not wanting to eat incase of being sick. It's so difficult. Sending hugs

I'd say I'm struggling to force myself to try and eat just now, maybe because I'm feeling distant to baby and the pregnancy and hate the response of dh that I have to eat for the baby... Got irrationally irritated by mil saying I had a bit of an upset tummy... Its hard for others to see what this is really like and understand :(

Pygmyseahorse · 12/06/2020 18:54

Also rear for keeping the apple juice down! Even if its not food that's better than nothing :)

MrsJamieLWeir · 12/06/2020 19:29

I feel like I may have spoken too soon, spent the last hour throwing up, and as I’ve only had apple juice today it must be that.. the anti sickness tablets have not helped so far 😭😭

It’s so hard isn’t it, like I speak to a few friends who have recently had babies and all they say is ‘it’ll get better’ which yeah it might but right now I can’t even begin to think of feeling better, and then my mum constantly says ‘i was sick with you everyday for 42 weeks’ which is fantastic 😂😂

kissingthebear · 12/06/2020 19:46

Hi Ladies.
Just wanted to let you all know I had my DD on Monday via CS. She's perfect & I can't tell you how relieved I am the pregnancy is over & she's here. She's a dream come true 🌈

I'm at home recovering well & the sickness went almost immediately as they lifted that placenta out. I had genuinely forgotten how it felt to be a normal human being without dragging around the weight of nausea. I didn't think I was strong enough to see it through, but I did.

To all those suffering, stick at it, day by day. It'll pass & once that baby is in your arms your hearts will be the fullest they've ever been. I'm never taking anything for granted again. I feel like I've come out of this with a new sense of joy at the most simplest of things.

Thank you @LucindaE for all you do on here. This has been a lifeline for me. I'm so eternally grateful for the cheerleading, support & advice.

@BeautyAndTheBump1 CONGRATS Mumma.

Snowwhite2020 · 12/06/2020 20:35

@kissingthebear CONGRATULATIONS! I am
So happy for you! I am so glad that you feel better and that your baby arrived safely and is well. I cannot wait to (hopefully) post a similar message myself come November... it’s a tough old slog! Enjoy. It’s done!!! 🌈 xx

LucindaE · 12/06/2020 20:56

kissingthebear Wonderful news. Congratulations on your DD. I am so happy for you. You were invaluable on here. It is great about the joy. I hope you will call back in and keep us updated or even show a photo.

Welcome to MrsJanineLWeir. Hyperemesis comes as a horrible shock to most. I am glad the doctor has prescribed new meds and I hope they help better. Sorry apple juice didn't help. I attach my normal spiel in case it is useful. Most sufferers find that they improve a lot at some point between weeks 14 and 20. A good anti acid can make a surprising difference to the sickness. Kesostix are worth buying online or from a chemists, as while they aren't they best test of dehydration, hospitals take them seriously. Some drinks that have helped others besides that apple juice and foods of a sort. full sugar flat coke, ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Lucozade, Dr Pepper, soda water, Elderflower water, tonic water, ice cubes, Iron Bru, lemonade, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid), fizzy orange, 7Up, isotonic drinks, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), fizzy water and Robinson's fruit juices. Foods of a sort include tinned fruit, cuppa soup, nibbles of crisps and chips, cheap ice cream, Scotch pancakes, slices of melon and mango, grated cheese, baked potatoes, grated cheese and biscuits.
Pygmyseahorse Great advice. You are invaluably supportive.
KatieFTM I can't believe that remark from the doctor. I think that things have improved a lot since I suffered, and then I hear something like that Sad.
Clarkel1 That sounds dreadful about the insomnia. I am just throwing out suggestions - but might a Hypnosis Insomnia CD help (sorry, that 's old fashioned technology, I haven't got round to ipods yet and dont know how you'd get a Hypnosis recording that way!) . I used to listen to one about assertiveness and the repeated suggestions were so boring it sent me to sleep every time! It is worrying being above average in age, particularly if you had a high risk result last time, and very hard to relax whatever OH and your family might say.
SnowWhite2020 I hope you weren't vomitng blood last night? That would be so depressing at nightime. The tedious thing is one has to report it, though the chances are if it only from the throat.I think they are always concerned about brown blood.
Waves to all. Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

@kissingthebear huge congratulations, so lovely to hear! Hope you are both doing well.

@LucindaE I know 😭 awful response. Luckily the male doctor is very nice. He has given me promethazine to try

MrsJamieLWeir · 13/06/2020 12:02

@LucindaE thank you so much :) I’ve managed to drink some chocolate milk today but not managed food yet.. I took my first lot of tablets this morning at 6am so I’m hoping these will work 🤞🏼🤞🏼

LucindaE · 13/06/2020 16:39

MrsJamieLWeir That is good about the chocloate milk.
IAmSeriousAndDon'tCallMeShirley Sorry, I couldn't read the bit of my messages I scrawled out addressed to you. It seems bad you have had so little support over the heart problem. I am glad the neighbour is helpful.
Really muggy today...

Hi everyone so beafire it was just nasea but today and yesterday the actual sickness has started and I actually feel better when sick but it's giving me awful headaches and pains in stomach anyone else? X

Herewegoagainx4 · 13/06/2020 17:32

Goodness, there seems to be lots to catch up on. Not sure I can manage much of a reply but was popping on to say a quick hello.

Congratulations @kissingthebear so lovely to hear of happy baby arrival and end of sickness Flowers

@Clarkel1 I find the nausea worse than the sickness in some regards, it can be so relentless. I tend to get headaches when vomiting from the strain as well as dehydration. And stomach pains can be the strain also - what sort of a pain is it? If you've any concerns do always contact your MW - has she been helpful so far?

Clarkel1 · 13/06/2020 17:51

@Herewegoagainx4 like a ripping pain. I feel awful... I'm honestly hating this pregnancy I haven't felt good once, feel awful saying that as I'm only ten weeks but it is just the worst I've ever felt in my life x

Herewegoagainx4 · 13/06/2020 18:36

@Clarkel1 don't feel bad for admitting how you feel. It is difficult to be honest and often pregnancy is perceived as this wonderful, magical time full of love and that elusive glowiness, and I think we feel guilty for feeling otherwise or worried about others judging us for it - although often we are our own worse judges! I absolutely do not like pregnancy at all, I hate being pregnant and as far as I am concerned the best part is giving birth - not because it isn't hard but it marks coming to the end of the HG nightmare.

Take heart as you are very much in the grips of HG right now. I have found weeks 8-16 the worse in previous pregnancies and normally by 20 weeks I feel able to function a bit more normally. I know that feels a long way off though. I am 6 weeks and the nausea has ramped up tonnes in the last 24 hours and I am dreading the weeks ahead. We just need to try and hang in there as best we can - hunker down and concentrate on surviving Flowers

Herewegoagainx4 · 13/06/2020 18:36

@Clarkel1 what meds are you on?

boulevardofbrokendreams · 13/06/2020 18:46

Congrats @kissingthebear!!

Snowwhite2020 · 13/06/2020 20:44

@Herewegoagainx4 I agree with your advice for @Clarkel1.

Sorry @clarke1 that you are feeling so bad. I know how you are feeling... when I started to vomit more bizarrely that was a sign I was transitioning into the next phase of sickness. By about 14/15 weeks I was more sick than I had been so far but bizarrely felt much brighter as the 24/7 heavy nausea of those earlier weeks was just utterly debilitating and drowned all my senses. It’s still there, don’t get me wrong, nothing tastes/ smells/ feels right at all and I’m still very sick but the heavy heavy pain of the early nausea did lift a bit. Hope that helps xx

Snowwhite2020 · 13/06/2020 20:52

Also sorry to hear nausea is ramping up for you at 6 weeks @Herewegoagainx4 I was really feeling it by that point too. Hope you can hit it with the meds early and see if you can stop the next but being quite such a nightmare.

@Pygmyseahorse waves to you. How are you today?

Xx
