Hi there,

Currently ordering first clothes ready for baby coming in July!

I’m a bit confused by Next sizing...

What would you recommend I buy for sleepsuits/bodysuits?

First size and up to 1 month?

What did/have you done? Xxx

Next is really roomy. My babies were 7lb1 and 7lb 15oz. They were in next 'up to one month' and 'up to 3 months' for a while.

0-3 month was huge and they were just flapping around in them. So didn't wear them till they were about 3 month

Their sizing chart says first size is up to 7lbs and up to one month is up to 10lbs, I think. So I thought up to one month for first bits would hopefully be ok in the main?

0-3 tends to be massive on newborns, is go newborn or 0-1 month for next x

My baby is 11wks and has only just grown out of first size. They were the best fitting ones by far, we've really struggled with sizing. She was 7lb 1oz at birth.

DS was 9lbs13 and never fit in Next first size, but he did have a few babygrows in upto 1 month which fit him for the first couple of weeks

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/05/2020 08:01

Mine were 7.5lbs and 8lbs, and long. They wore the Up to 10lb clothes for about 6-8 weeks. The babies length affects clothes sizing as well, not just weight.

I wouldn't bother with anything smaller unless you are predicted a small baby.

Hippoplatypus · 13/05/2020 08:04

Personally I would skip first size and get a few up to one month and a few 0-3 months. Neither of my average size babies would have fitted in first size and were only in up to one month for a very short time. I bought from a couple of different shops and they all seem to come up slightly different, next is one of the biggest I would say, M&S is a bit smaller, it's a mine field!

0-3 months are huge. Up to 1 month is probably the size you’ll get most use out of at first but worth having a few first size for the 1st couple of weeks. Next are usually on the big side

FirstTimeMum95 · 13/05/2020 09:10

I’ve just received my next order and ordered 0-3 months only to be safe ... they look HUGE. Definitely will be put away for a while! I’ve just done an second order of first size clothes, hoping these won’t be too small haha! Xx

DD was 7lb5oz at birth. She got maybe 2 weeks out of the few pieces we had of first size. Most of the stuff we had was 0-1mo, which were big to start with, but didn't completely drown her. We got about 5 weeks out of those clothes.

Unless you're predicted a sub 7lb baby I'd go straight for 0-1.

Sadie789 · 13/05/2020 09:12

I would buy one of each, first and 1st size, just in case, you can always return the one you don’t use.

Sadie789 · 13/05/2020 09:12

First and one month that should be.

MsSquiz · 13/05/2020 09:18

It very much depends on the shape of your baby...
my DD was 7lb13 born and by the sizing chart for next should have been too big for first size, but I had to send DH for first size bodysuits and sleep suits and she wore them for at least the first month.

She is currently 5 days short of being 5 months old and only started wearing 3-6 months from Next when she turned 4 months as she has short and chubby arms & legs (like her mam!)

Sleepyquest · 13/05/2020 09:25

My baby was born 7lbs 13oz. Newborn and up to 1 month were too big. She was in Next First size for 3 weeks and then up to 1 month until she was 6/7 weeks.

Since then I've found the next clothes less roomy. Or my baby has massive feet who knows!
Boots clothes are HUUUGE
