I'm 17 weeks and for the past maybe 3-4 weeks I've had a painful twinge in my left lower back / upper bum cheek - can't really describe it but it's really hurting just getting up and sitting down, I feel it when I'm walking.

Never really had that before - this is my 2nd pregnancy.

Anyone got any ideas why it's so bad when I'm so early? Dread to think what it could be like as I'm closer to the end of the pregnancy. Is it possible the baby is near a nerve? Is it even related to the pregnancy? I feel like it must be.

Could it be sciatica. Are you able to speak to your mw.

Thanks for replying- I thought that, been reading up and it's possible but rare this early.
I have a call tomorrow for my 16 wk check up (not in person at the moment) so will ask but it's hard on the phone so will see what they think.

It could well be pelvic girdle pain (PGP) - have a google x

I had this earlier in my pregnancy!
Thought it was sciatica at the time...
Had a pregnancy massage, and kept using wheat bags and it went away.

Fast forward to 35 weeks, and its back again, with the addition of pain at the front. Had a physio phone referral (at 36wks), who says its PGP, both symptoms! The bum cheek pain being from the sacroiliac joint.

If I was earlier in my pregnancy they would have recommended a bump support, but for now I have exercises to keep me going until I pop!
