Did your low placenta move after 32 weeks?

If your placenta was still low at 32 weeks, did it move after that or did it stay? X

My waters broke at 35+5 I had a CS booked for 3 weeks time and when they scanned me my placenta had moved so I was told I would be able to deliver "normally" As it was I didn't go into labour despite being induced etc and ended up with an emergency CS due to other complications but that's a whole other story! Good luck

Mummyspider27 · 12/05/2020 19:23

So at 32 weeks it showed as low but 35+5 it had moved? X

Mine didn't move out of the way until 39 weeks,I had weekly scans and told to come straight in if I went into labour or bled at all.
Had a straight forward vaginal delivery at 41 weeks.

Mummyspider27 · 13/05/2020 07:46

Oh wow! Never knew they could move so late! X

It had moved up slightly by 32 wks so they decided 36 week caesarean not necessary (This was 27yrs ago) He was born at 41 weeks, placenta was still fairly low and I bled fairly heavily but other than that all OK.

Minkies13 · 13/05/2020 07:53

By my 38 week scan it had well and truly moved up

GoulashSoup · 13/05/2020 07:57

Mine didn’t sorry, I started bleeding at 35+5 so it was an emergency section for me.

My advice would be to hope for the best but pack a hospital bag and plan for a caesarean.

Fingers crossed for you it is intense having no control over the situation.

Tootletum · 13/05/2020 07:58

Yes. Scan at 32 was still too low and I was booked for a section, scan at 36 it had moved enough.

GoulashSoup · 13/05/2020 07:58

There must be a reason they scan again after 32 weeks, that would suggest that a certain proportion do still move.

TenThousandSpoons0 · 13/05/2020 10:46

Depends how low it is and whether anterior or posterior - if anterior and low but not covering the cervix at 32/40 it’s more likely to still move, than posterior. Don’t know exactly how likely tho! Rule of thumb is it needs to be>2cm away from the cervix.

Mummyspider27 · 13/05/2020 17:14

@TenThousandSpoons0 good knowledge! Right now I am 31 weeks and it’s anterior and covering... x

Interesting to read this! It was pointed out to me at 20 week scan that mine is low and posterior but the sonoographer didn't say much else, other than come back around 32 weeks and hopefully it will have moved.

Of course the first thing I did was go on Google to see what that meant - never a good idea! So I'm glad to see so many of yours moved up even so late on!

Louiseem · 14/05/2020 09:16

I was told at 20 weeks I had a low lying placenta... Had my 32 weeks scan yesterday to check and it's only moved 2 mm 😟 I've been booked in at 36 weeks to check again but been told if it's not moved to 2.5cm then I will need a c section. Feel gutted to be honest as most people said 9/10 times it would have moved!

Mummyspider27 · 14/05/2020 09:46

I am having a c-section anyway, so not as concerned just more that it would be brought forward so trying to get my head around that x

I was told would be done at 39 weeks x

Clairyd121 · 14/05/2020 09:50

I had my 33 week scan on Monday and was told my placenta is still low, I have to go back next Monday for another scan and was told to bring a bag as I may need to be kept in eventhough I've had no bleeding, really hope it moves.

Mummyspider27 · 14/05/2020 13:46

@Clairyd121 of gosh. Did they say how long you would be kept in for before a section is done? X

OP posts:
tinytemper66 · 14/05/2020 13:49

Mine never moved and had emergency C section at 34/35 weeks.

Clairyd121 · 14/05/2020 14:02

@Mummyspider27 no she didn't say just said she may waa concerned about bleeding and that they may need to give me steroid injections, never thought to ask at the time how long I would be there before a section would be done..

alicegrowyoga · 14/05/2020 14:24

Hi, In my pregnancy yoga classes there have been several women, over the years with low lying placentas and to be honest the time they move seems to vary, some after 32 weeks and some a lot sooner. Sorry, I can't be more specific but I wish you well with the c section.
