Confused - Blighted Ovum / MMC

LosingtheTTCplot · 11/05/2020 17:10

I should be 10 weeks today and had a private scan on Saturday but the sac was empty, she suspected a blighted Ovum. I’m 100% on my dates so was referred to EPU.

I had an NHS scan today and they said the same pretty much but they will not diagnose it as a blighted Ovum as my sac is not the correct size to be classed as a blighted Ovum and there are irregularities with/in the sac.

I have to wait 10 days for another scan but she said it will be one of three things.

  • I’ll miscarry in the next 10 days (could be sac irregularities are the sac breaking down)
  • No change
  • Something may develop, but unlikely.

I think she was trying to politely say, go home and wait for the miscarriage. If the miscarriage doesn’t come in 10 days then they will discuss things.

Been a bit crampy this afternoon as had abdo and TV scan.

I just want it over and done with now and was really snappy when she wanted me to wait 10 more days, as if 10 weeks wasn’t long enough for my body to be fooling me for.

I’m confused as if it’s not a blighted Ovum, what is it? A MMC?

@Furbsies how you getting on?

I think I’ve just lost my plug. An old blood streaked long rubbery glob. Cramps have got worse but still only spotting.

I think my body is trying but I think it will last until Wednesday when I have my scan and I’ll need intervention xx

@losingthettcplot I'm so sorry. Hope you are getting through it and it's soon over for you.

I'm still on spotting. No signs of clots or heavier or brighter red bleeding. No cramps either. But I know there was no baby... Wednesday still seems like months away.

I had this happen to me last year ,it was very hard going for the 48 hour tests but after a week it was confirmed as miscarriage although I knew this. I had some very light natural bleeding starting but hardly anything.
I had medical management as that was the option I requested,I took the tablets at the hospital and was allowed to leave shortly after. I passed my first clot within 15mins whilst still at the hospital. I was provided pain medication and thick pads to take home. In those next few hours I passed more clots and then the placenta, which I admit was a shock. For me though this experience wasn’t painful at all and after those first couple hours I had no more clots and had a period bleed. This did last for nearly 3 weeks though and took a month for my hormones to go to zero, I didn’t have any further appointments though and waited for a negative pregnancy test.
I hope this helps anyone in a similar position.

LosingtheTTCplot · 19/05/2020 08:13

@Furbsies I’m still on brown spotting, it’s really light with the occasional dry brown stringy bit. Still no red.

Scan tomorrow. What time is yours? Have you spoken with your husband again about medical management? Xx

OP posts:
Furbsies · 19/05/2020 15:09

@losingthettcplot mine is the same. The brown stringy bits have gone for me and now it's more dark red mixed with brown. Not completely brown anymore. Not completely red either. I'm having the occasional cramp now though.

My scan is at 11am. Thankfully earlier in the day. Idk how I'd spend the whole day if I had to wait.

I have spoken to my husband and I think I will most likely go for medical management and I will only consider surgical management if things don't clear themselves up.

Pretty convinced I will be making a decision on the kind of management I require. As it is day 19 and I am still spotting.

What time is your scan. Have you thought of what you will be doing? Have my fingers crossed for us both that we don't have to suffer any more stress than we already have. Xxx

LosingtheTTCplot · 19/05/2020 17:28

@Furbsies my scan is 10.30, glad it is the morning as well.

I’m going to do the same and push for medical management unless a D&C is an option, think the D&C will help me as have two kids who don’t know what is going on.

Unless of course there is a miracle and a baby and heartbeat has appeared!

Good luck for tomorrow. I’ll be thinking of you while I’m in my appointment and keep me posted xx

Best of luck tomorrow @LosingtheTTCplot @Furbsies

My heart goes out to you both and I will be thinking of you!

If you feel able please let me know how you get on!

I was booked in for treatment a day or so after that app so hopefully if things don't work out for you both you will have closure soon 💕 x

LosingtheTTCplot · 19/05/2020 22:04

Thank you @MrsRose2018

Will keep you posted. Xx

Furbsies · 19/05/2020 23:32

@mrsrose2018 and @losingthettcplot thank you both

I just passed a clot the size of a pound coin and have since had cramps on and off. And soaking a pad now so I think this is it for me.

I think the scan will just be a confirmation and next steps. Thank you guys for supporting though

@losingthettcplot hope you find your little miracle tomorrow!! Have my fingers crossed for you.

Furbsies · 20/05/2020 13:27

@losingthettcplot @mrsrose2018 unfortunately I have had a miscarriage.. It has started. In the end i opted for expectant management with the option of going back if i so wish.

@losingthettcplot how are you? How did your appt go

LosingtheTTCplot · 20/05/2020 13:33

@Furbsies Aww so sorry to hear this.

Scan was as before and currently sat in EPAU waiting for the tablets as midwife didn’t think I would pass naturally.
She is doing a referral for me for the recurrent miscarriages clinic.

So just waiting for the beginning of the end but feel as though I’ve got somewhere so hopefully find why I can’t keep a baby xx

OP posts:
Em39ma · 20/05/2020 16:27

I’m going through this at the moment. Started spotting on Monday, called EPAU yesterday. I’ve had a previous ectopic/miscarriage so I went up for a scan.
They can see an empty sac, but they are saying it is small so either earlier than I thought or a failing pregnancy. I think it is a failing pregnancy as it feels the same my first.

MrsRose2018 · 20/05/2020 18:31

I'm so sorry ladies! Be kind to yourselves!!

@LosingtheTTCplot if your recurrent MC unit is anything like the one at St Mary's hospital you're going to be in fantastic hands!!! My manager was under their care after his wife had 5 MCs and they've have two children now.

Also I don't knew the exact specifics but my stepdads daughter had 2 concurrent MCs - no heartbeat discovered at her 12 week scan - and I believe she had sole kind of hormone treatment/injections or similar and went on to have two babies.

Obviously very little comfort for you right now but there is hope 💕 xx

LosingtheTTCplot · 20/05/2020 19:52

@em39ma sorry to hear this. Fingers crossed you are just too early to see anything.

@MrsRose2018 Thank you for your kind words.

I had the tablets put in about 3.15 and started bleeding an hour later, every hour I’ve had a flood and just sat on the toilet, taken some codeine which has taken the edge off the pain. Feeling quite drained now. Xx

OP posts:
LosingtheTTCplot · 21/05/2020 09:45

Well @Furbsies @MrsRose2018 I’m not going to lie, it’s horrific.

Passing humungous clots, size of a saucer one of them was, was up twice in the night as flooded. Changing every hour. Nearly passed out twice and had to call hubby to the massacre in the bathroom as couldn’t keep consciousness properly. I think he nearly passed out in that scenario.

But despite the pain and products at least the tablets worked and the process started.

How are you feeling @Furbsies? Xx

OP posts:
MrsRose2018 · 21/05/2020 10:19

Oh @LosingtheTTCplot my heart absolutely aches for you!!

Do you think it may be worth going into hospital? They will give you some good drugs and it's their massacre to deal with?

If sounds like you're losing a lot a lot of blood if you're that dizzy! You may need a drip or something xx

LosingtheTTCplot · 21/05/2020 10:26

@MrsRose2018 I think I passed the majority and the sac during the massacre.

On the codeine at the moment so pain wise not too bad now, just so very tired. Currently working at home in bed so I can snooze when I want.

Hopefully the bleeding will tail off a bit, it’s not filling within 20 mins and has reduced to having to change every 2-3 hours now so hopefully the worst of it is over. Xx

OP posts:
Furbsies · 21/05/2020 12:15

Hey @losingthettcplot goodness. Hope that you are feeling a bit better today.

I am alright. I'm passing clots the size of 50p coins almost all the time. No big ones yet. I've been bleeding but nothing like my period is as I'm a very heavy bleeder. It's going to be a slow process. But I will probably opt for the pill.. Yday when the nurse asked me I was so confused about everything that I didn't even speak a word

LosingtheTTCplot · 21/05/2020 19:46

@Furbsies aww. I was very much rabbit in the headlights at my first scan and just sat there in silence but I went to yesterday’s appointment with balls and told her I wanted management.

She was very good and understanding and she even referred me to recurrent miscarriage clinic and booked me in for the tablets for a couple of hours later.

My bleeding has slowed now so think the worst has passed. Just incredibly tired now. Xx

OP posts:
Furbsies · 26/05/2020 14:41

Sorry. I've been awol. Gave myself a little break from here and it's helped me as I started to indulge in TTC groups.

My bleeding has gone heavier but I think it's not all gone yet. I have a scan in 4th and if it is not all clear then I will go for MVA. I'm just scared as they do it only under local atm due to covid.

itssquidstella · 26/05/2020 17:18

Hi @Furbsies I'm having MVA tomorrow after having a mmc confirmed today at the EPU - I'll let you know how it goes (also under local).

Furbsies · 26/05/2020 17:25

@itssquidstella thank you. Will wait for your message.

LosingtheTTCplot · 26/05/2020 21:32

@Furbsies fingers crossed it’s clear by then and you don’t have to have the mva.

Mine bleeding has slowed right down to brown. I’ll do another test tomorrow. I just want it to stop now. Xx

itssquidstella · 27/05/2020 16:13

@Furbsies I had the procedure today. It wasn't pleasant but it was bearable. There was a LOT of waiting around - I got to the hospital at 9am and didn't leave until almost 2.30.

The worst bit was the injection into the cervix to numb it; they put some numbing gel on before the injection but I still found it quite painful; however, it was over pretty quickly.

The procedure itself was uncomfortable (like bad period cramps) and unpleasant because of how unnatural it feels to have something manmade inside your uterus, but it wasn't agonising or anything approaching it.

I surprised myself by feeling sick and like I was going to pass out, when I'm usually not very squeamish, but I think that was psychological as much as physical.

The cramps had pretty much gone within fifteen minutes of the procedure being over, and I went home about fifteen minutes after that. It was a bit gruelling but the recovery is so quick and I feel mentally so much better knowing it's over and dealt with, so I would recommend it if it's on offer to you.

Furbsies · 29/05/2020 19:26

@itssquidstella thank you for describing it. I did read it and it did help me understand what I was going in for.

I've just had it today. The whole procedure was not that painful for me. My worst period cramps have been way worse. So it was alright. But I was quite shocked by the amount of blood everywhere once I got up, there was too much that they couldn't clean it before I got up. And tbh. They were not ready for it as they had to quickly find two replacement inco sheets and more gauze etc. Despite that blood was dripping everywhere when I stood up

Perhaps tmi and very visual but I thought I got up to a murder site and haven't been able to get that image out of my head.

On a more positive note. I'm mentally happier though. Knowing everything is out now and bleeding is already much much less...
