16 week appointment

Hello,
Currently 15 weeks pregnant (First time mum so not sure how any of this works). I have not heard anything about my 16 week appointment. I'm consultant led so I'm not sure if the 16 week check is with a midwife at my GP surgery or at the antenatal clinic at the hospital? And if I need to contact the GP surgery to book the appointment myself? Any information would be great. TIA ❤️

You should have received information about it directly from your midwife. Mine came as a text message at around 10 weeks. If I were you I would give them a call now to check. I’m also consultant led and am having both a face-to-face appointment with a midwife at my GP surgery as well as a phone call with a consultant in week 16.

I was given my 16 week appointment at my 12 week scan. If you still haven't received it you should give your maternity admin a call.

Coopsy92 · 11/05/2020 16:42

I was told to phone my GP to book it myself, I think it's different in every area. Definitely give someone a ring!

I'm also consultant led but the midwife appointments at 16, 25 weeks etc are separate.

Every trust will have different arrangements but, in my area, you have to book ring and book yourself in. They don't automatically contact you.

Mine was pre-Covid but I believe most areas have now cancelled the 16 week appt completely or changed it to telephone only. I would just give them a ring and double check what, if anything, you're supposed to do.

I would try and contact the midwife if you have a number. I got a letter through the post to say 16 week appt would be over the phone but the midwife is aware that I have had complications so text to say she was happy to see me face to face.

I haven’t heard anything about my 16 week one either and I’m 16 weeks tomorrow, didn’t even realise you were supposed to have one until I looked through my green notes! I only have a letter for my 20 week scan

Bellsx · 11/05/2020 21:16

Mine was booked after my first appointment with the midwife at just over 9 weeks.

DressingGown87 · 11/05/2020 21:20

I’m consultant led, had a face to face 16 week appointment with both them and the midwife. They booked it after my 12 week appointment. Maybe give them a call. Some 16week appointments are getting cancelled, and some are over the phone.

MichelleOR84 · 12/05/2020 09:23

My 16 week appointment was booked in for me at my 8 week booking appointment, although I also received a phone call as a reminder from my midwife.

MichelleOR84 · 12/05/2020 09:25

Forgot to mention it’s a midwife appointment to check your urine, blood pressure , you get to hear baby’s heartbeat and then you have time for any questions .

Sheera1 · 12/05/2020 12:18

My booking appointment the midwife said they were not doing 16 weeks as not seeing people in the flesh so to speak. I am not going to meet her until 22 weeks apparently. X

Superscientist · 12/05/2020 14:38

I'm consultant led but I have those appointments in addition to my midwife appointments. I see my midwife at my gp surgery so I make the appointments through them. I didn't know that was what I was meant to do until my consultant asked when my next midwife appointment!
It varies by area though, a call to your midwife or gp surgery should give you info specific to yours.

@MichelleOR84 sorry to jump on this thread but I read you had your appointment at 8 weeks too, is that not too early. I had a telephone appointment this morning and my scan and bloods etc is booked In for When I will be 8weeks. I thought it is meant to be at 12weeks. Will they see everything at 8? Sorry stressing abit

MichelleOR84 · 12/05/2020 15:09

@baba11 I had a booking appointment at 8 weeks with my midwife . This was half over the phone and half in person to take blood samples , urine and blood pressure . No ultrasound , no listening to the heartbeat . I know most people had this appointment completely over the phone but in my area they were still seeing people in person .

I also have my dating scan this week which will be an ultrasound and then more blood work .

My 16 week appointment very well might be cancelled at this rate though but if it goes ahead it will be another urine sample, blood pressure taken and I’ll get to listen to the heartbeat.

This is my second child though so I know what to expect 😅 I was so stressed my first pregnancy!!!!

Baba11 · 12/05/2020 15:34

Oh right thanks for clearing that up.
I really think it is too early at weeks to scan. Should have questioned it with her.
