Now that we've found out the sex, I cant help but worry that they have made a mistake and that I'll give birth to the other!!!! is that just being silly???

yip - you are being silly... but probably normal! Hormones, hormones, hormones!

claraq · 18/09/2007 15:07

Just don't tell everyone/name it/buy lots of appropriately coloured clothing/decorate the room in either blue or pink and then it won't matter even if it is the opposite sex. Will be a nice suprise on the day!

When I was due to have my first scan, I was convinced that I had made a mistake and they would reveal that I wasn't actually pregnant. Genuinely thought the scan would reveal an empty uterus and they would tut and say stupid girl, what were you thinking.

I think you just convince yourself of strange things whilst pregnant!

DumbledoresGirl · 18/09/2007 15:15

It depends on what you were told.

If they said it was a boy, there is not much chance that they made a mistake but if they said it was a girl, there is a small chance they got it wrong.

Meeely2 · 18/09/2007 15:17

kitty, I was like that! petrified that i'd made a mistake and i wasn't pregs. The sonographer was very quiet when he started scanning and i thought, right this is it and then he announced it was twins! fell off the bed......

Sarahjct · 18/09/2007 15:20

OMG I thought I was the only nutter! I was absolutely convinced I'd be sent to the loony bin with empty womb syndrome!

When I had my 12 week scan and eveyone kept asking me was I happy with the result (it was also a nuchal scan), all I could say was bugger the result, I'm pregnant!

Even now, after the 20 wk and a gender scan plus the little tinker waking me up at 4.30 every morning kicking my bladder, I'm still not entirely convinced...

HerculesMorseAsBigAsAnElephant · 18/09/2007 15:24

Not being silly at all teenyweeny. We were told it was a girl at 20w. Bollocks to that...quite literally! Like DG says, if they say pink, there's more of a chance they've got it wrong and it's just a bashful boy (though they can sometimes mistake cord for boy's bits too)

teenyweeny · 18/09/2007 15:28

Now I want another scan to double check!!!

my friend had her 20 week scan and the sonographer wouldn't commit to it being a girl or boy, she said she 'thought' it was a boy but wouldn't say 100%. My friend was gutted as she really wanted to know, so she booked a 4D scan too, and now they know for sure and she's a lot happier.

Jbck · 18/09/2007 17:05

I've got a growth scan on Monday & I'm getting them to double check this time, with DD we knew at 22 weeks but I only bought one gender specific thing & never told anyone.
They were right but you never know.

ladymuck · 18/09/2007 17:10

We were told ds1 was a girl at 20 weeks... That said I had had a strong instinct that I was carrying a boy, so the info that it was a girl did seem wrong.

skidoodle · 18/09/2007 20:51

phew, sometimes Mumsnet is such a great relief.

I too had empty womb syndrome. So nice to know I'm not the only one.

peachygirl · 18/09/2007 20:57

I felt very much like you teenyweeny. We found out but I didn't go mad buying pink stuff. I bought a few items but mostly neutral things too.
We also told only close family and friends what the sex was. I work with lots of women and told very few people at work due to them all going on and on about it.
This helped it be quite special. We also had a boys name just in case

I was told at twelve weeks that i was having a boy and i was over the moon, then yesterday i was told by the specialist that its a girl, I was so upset cause i just assumed the first one to be right and i would have one of each but i will get used to the idea of having another little princess i just wish they didn't get my hopes up like that.
