Hey, I'm just wondering if anyone had an early scan at a private clinic? I'm thinking off having one from 6 weeks. Does anyone have any experience with one ect? Tia xxx

I’ve had several scans at 6-7 weeks. They have all been transvaginal. My doctor always encourages me to wait until as close to 7 weeks as possible as by then the heartbeat should be detectable in a viable pregnancy.

I had one at 7 weeks and I don't regret it.
12 weeks is a long time to wait and it gave me peace of mind.
I waited to make sure a heartbeat could be seen so maybe try to hang on for another week?

UrsulaSings · 10/05/2020 18:42

I had an early private scan at 8 weeks. The reason I chose 8 weeks was because I was told if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks then it's only about a 3% chance you'll miscarry after that. Also I didnt want to go earlier and risk not seeing a heartbeat yet and then worrying until the week/2 weeks after.

I had one at 6+5. It was nice but I wouldn't do it again. You don't see much but it can be incredibly reassuring to see the heartbeat. On the flip side it can be incredibly distressing if you don't see one when your dates would suggest you should

Thank you everyone. I will wait for 7 to 8 weeks. It really is just for reassurance due to having bad anxiety xx

I had one at 9 weeks it was amazing .

20viona · 10/05/2020 18:52

Yes 9+2 and you could see the heartbeat too. It was worth doing, I'd do it again.

riotlady · 10/05/2020 18:55

I had one at what I thought was 8 weeks (turned out to be 9) and found it really reassuring.

I had one at 8 weeks, I felt it was a good time to be sure there could be a heartbeat but still some time before the 12 week scan.

Delbelleber · 10/05/2020 18:57

I had a private abdominal scan at 7w

Shmithecat2 · 10/05/2020 18:58

I had one at 5+4. Couldn't see much really, but a tiny little flicker of a heartbeat.

LittleMiss7 · 10/05/2020 19:38

We had one at 7weeks as I couldn't wait 12 weeks to find out if everything was OK or not. The people were absolutely lovely and it gave me real peace of mind as well as a shock - she told us it's twins!! 😳lol xx

The closer you can wait to 8 weeks the better.
I had one when I thought I was 7+5 by LMP but baby only measured 6+1 and I was told I was very lucky to have heard a heart beat.
I went back 2 weeks later and baby measured 8+2.
The second scan was much better in that there was a lot more to see and the heart beat was stronger.

Unless you are absolutely sure about when you conceived, allow for a bit of wiggle room. It's not uncommon for baby's to measure smaller in the early days.

London91 · 10/05/2020 19:42

Had scans at EPU due to recurrent miscarriage at 6+2, 8+2 and 10+2. Luckily we saw a heart beat at the first scan, but it would have been very stressful had we not. Not much to see till about 10 weeks, but reassuring. As others have said the longer you can hold out the better and the more there will be to see.

Best of luck with your pregnancy.

allaboutleopardprint · 10/05/2020 22:28

I booked one for 6+1 today, then did a bit more research and changed it to 7 weeks exactly (from LMP).

It's my first pregnancy and really, I am looking for confirmation that want to know that it's a viable intrauterine pregnancy - and if it's one or two (or three or four...) Grin xx

I went for one about six weeks and it was so amazing to see the little baked bean flickering with a tiny bean pole spinal cord. I’d been for one about five weeks but could only see a sac.

ELM8 · 10/05/2020 22:41

Yes at 9 weeks as suddenly all symptoms went and I didn't believe I was pregnant. Definitely worth it and a much more relaxed scan than the NHS ones (understandably of course) and we could film the screen etc.

The symptoms came back within a few days and that tiny thing is now a gorgeous 5 month old. Good luck!!!
