For my first child I opted for a c section. It was done earlier than planned(he had other ideas lol)

It was planned for 39w 0. Has anyone had 39 +1,+2,+3 etc?

I can't remember exactly now but my dc2 was something like 39+6 maybe it was+5.
I'm having dc3 next week at 38+2 which was brought forward from 39

Hey ladies
I am a FTM and am due to have my elective c as section at 39 weeks exactly. I’m interested to know what circumstances might arise for them to bring it forward? He’s always measured big in my growth scans so could that be a sign my due date is a bit off in which case I could ask for one a bit earlier?

I’m nervous to go into labour and then need an emergency. Thank you

Delbelleber · 10/05/2020 00:22

My scan last week at 37w measured low waters. I'm in a lot for fetal monitoring because of reduced movements and after that scan they said they would bring my date forward just because they could. Apparently the waters were measuring that of a 38w pregnancy and I asked if that meant my baby could indeed be 38w but was told no!

Delbelleber · 10/05/2020 00:23

If you went in to labour would they let you labour or would you get taken for section?

JKD1982 · 10/05/2020 00:28

Thanks for the info. I am having a growth scan next Tuesday so will wait to see what they say about waters. I’ve had some reduced movement but not enough to warrant him being whisked out early I don’t think?

I was told by other MNs that if you go into labour you can just go to hospital and they will do the section. I hope that is the case...

Delbelleber · 10/05/2020 00:30

I'm having a scan this Tuesday coming, plus pre operation assessment thing and section on Thursday!

Midnightdream · 10/05/2020 00:40

I went into labour and I had section the very next day they monitored me overnight as I was in the very early stages of labour.

I dont want the section done at 39w. I want it done after 39w 3+. With my DS I was giving 2 dates but went for 39w to get it out the way soon as possible now I want the baby in longer!

Are you worried about the babies health being born earlier @midnightdream?
I am abit worried.

isoblue · 10/05/2020 00:44

I had mine at 39+2 weeks. To avoid shoulder dystocia. I had polyhydramnios as well.

Midnightdream · 10/05/2020 01:00

@Delbelleber Yes, he had terrible colic/reflux and would not sleep through until around 7 months. It was that bad I raised one side of the bed so the acid would not rise up. It was horrendous.

They start from 39w. If your section has been moved forward to 38+ 2. There is a good reason behind it. Speak to your midwife or when you go for the scan. I'm sure baby is like mine and wants out Grin

I had my second c section (first emergency second elective) in October. It was at 39+2. It was actually pushed back a day due to emergency cases which is apparently the norm. Was begging to have baby out by that point!

Jane0905 · 10/05/2020 08:49

Hi I am thinking of having another baby but this will mean a 3rd c section. I'm abit worried about doing this. Please can you let me know if you have had 3 and if your surgery and recovery went well?

em90792 · 10/05/2020 08:54

@jane0905 I've had 3, 3rd was best to date... due to have 4th (and final) in around 8ish weeks xx

Sheera1 · 10/05/2020 10:23

I am having a planned section. My first child was a very messy labour and eventual emergency section.

I am a lot older now and 41. Did I hear someone on mumsnet saying the bring us older ladies sections forward 2 weeks?

Pipandmum · 10/05/2020 10:29

I have type 1 diabetes and for my first was given a date around 38 weeks, moved slightly so as not to be too close to my stepson's birthday. As it happened my son decided to arrive nine days before (10lbs 4 oz). My second was also at 38 weeks at just under 10lbs. No idea why 38 weeks was chosen instead of 39 or later other than I probably would have exploded if they'd grown any bigger!

Pipandmum · 10/05/2020 10:30

Ah seeing @Sheera1 post I was in my 40s for both.

ChelseaCat · 10/05/2020 10:31

I had an elective section booked for 39+1, went into labour 37+4. A different consultant was working and refused to give me my section.

Maybelatte · 10/05/2020 11:11

Mine was 39+1 but only because he was 39 weeks on the Sunday. I think this one will be 39+2 because I turn 39 weeks on the Saturday.

JKD1982 · 10/05/2020 15:42

@ChelseaCat that sounds pretty horrendous. Why wouldn’t they give you the c section if it had been agreed?

ChelseaCat · 10/05/2020 18:15

@JKD1982 the consultant on call (it was Boxing Day) said she didn’t see that there was “a good reason” for me to have one and so she would not do it. Was pretty a unpleasant experience but thankfully one I believe doesn’t happen often. She also had the nerve to visit me after I’d delivered vaginally to say “aren’t you glad I wouldn’t give you a c section now”.

PixieN · 11/05/2020 08:59

@ChelseaCat That’s awful. Did you make a complaint?
