Can you feel when the baby engages?

I am 36 weeks keep getting pains low down - could it be the baby dropping or is the baby just knocking against something in there. It's been happening for three days now. I have a midwife appointment later today so I can get it checked out but I was just curious to see if you could feel the baby dropping like that.

Hi WMWG seems like there are quite a few of us mid-Octoberers about maybe we should start a thread! I have posted sporadically on the Oct ante-natal thread but not enough when I was working.

Are you a first timer too or do you have DC?

I know it's a godsend finishing work, does give you time to catch up on all those little things. I suppose we should be resting too though

i never felt my DDs head engaged from 36 weeks. My midwife told me that. (im not pg now).

missbumpy · 19/09/2007 16:29

Maybe we should start a thread (apologies to everyone else who's not expecting in Oct!). I've looked on the Oct antenatal thread but it always seems so long, I never know what's going on.

Kittiwake, I feel the same about not knowing what kind of pain to anticipate and also feeling like it would just be too lucky to have an easy birth since the pregnancy has been so straightforward. Hopefully we'll be lucky though

WMWG, I don't think you need to worry about being late. Apparently if it's your first then it usually engages 2-4 weeks before due date and if it's your 2nd or more then it often doesn't engage until you go into labour.

I will have a think about a thread title and post something tomorrow as am going out now unless you can think of something. We could leave message on here so people know where it is?

Tomorrow morning I am going to a NCT coffee morning have been sort of invited but am worried about going without baby and also a bit scared but am trying to convince myself everyone will be friendly

WheresMyWaistGone · 19/09/2007 17:23

Yes - this is my first and I am scared and excited in equal measure!

I was wondering about going to NCT coffee mornings - our area has "bumps and babies" mornings but I'm not sure if I have the courage to go! I might wait till the other girls in my group finish work too (I'm the earliest due date) and try to convince one of them to come too!

An October thread would be good - some of them just get so long!

missbumpy · 19/09/2007 19:09

I'll keep my eyes peeled for a new Oct thread tomorrow. Good luck at the NCT coffee morning. I've been really bad at things like that. I haven't even been to the NHS classes let alone NCT ones . I'm just too lazy. Also, my excuse is that I've got a few friends who are preggers at the mo so I get quite a lot of support from them (as well as from MN ).

Stefka · 19/09/2007 22:47

I tried to join that thread but it is pretty well established and hard to catch up.

I started NCT classes tonight. I also went along to a bumps and babies class - I was the only bump there but everyone was really nice.

Sounds like I need to do some baking.

OK, this is actually quite uncomfortable now! Is it meant to be painful when the baby's engaged or should I be worrying that I'm going into labour?!

I can feel a lot of pressure bearing down on my cervix when I stand/walk around. I've also got really sore hips and quite an achy back. Please don't say this is how it's going to be for the next 4 weeks or so!

I feel like an old lady

Kittiwake, Stefka, and WMWG, How are we going to do this Oct thread thing? I don't know what the etiquette is. I don't want to offend the people who've already got an Oct group going but I don't know how to join the current thread because it's so bloody long!

WheresMyWaistGone · 20/09/2007 12:04

Well, I guess one of us just needs to start a thread and perhaps make reference to the other Oct thread in the first posting, saying that we couldn't catch up and no offense is meant!

Re the pain, have you mentioned it to your midwife? She'll be able to tell you more and probably set your mind at rest. But don't worry - I'm sure all is well!

I had to have blood taken yesterday and I'm now the proud owner of a stunning bruise and aching arm! It didn't hurt any more than usual at the time either.

Kittiwake · 20/09/2007 14:06

Okay where shall we put the thread in here "pregnancy" or ante-natal section? If we put thread for first timers due in October then I am sure no-one will be offended on the other thread. Actually a few on there have had their babies already

Went to the NCT coffee morning and was really glad I did as everyone was really friendly - was also only one there with bump most others had 2 children but did not feel too much of a lemon and people were very supportive.

WMWG I was supposed to have bloods done on monday but midwife couldn't find a vein and after 3 attempts had to give up - ouch-, so had to go in yesterday as well and luckily different midwife who got it first time.

missbumpy · 20/09/2007 14:11

Maybe it should go on ante natal clubs instead of pregnancy? Not sure though.

Glad that NCT went well. WMWG, I've had nasty bruises after having blood taken before. It takes a little while to go down as well.

I did mention the pressure on my cervix to the midwife on Monday and she didn't seem to think anything of it. I think it's normal. Having said that, it's got worse since then. I wonder if it's also because I've started mat leave this week so I'm not as active as usual.

I can't help wondering if it means that the baby is on its way sooner rather than later but I think that might just be wishful thinking

Kittiwake · 20/09/2007 14:30

Okay I have done it posted in Ante-natal "Thread for first timers due Octoberish"

Missbumpy it does feel sometimes now like I am carrying around a bowling ball down there. Maybe that's normal!
