Bleeding throughout pregnancy

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to know if other ladies like me have bled throughout there pregnancy and had a successful pregnancy and birth from this. Currently pregnant with baby number 2, I had no bleeding in previous pregnancy so it is scaring me.

I was bleeding early on around 6 weeks - thought it was implantation bleeding. Then another light bleed mixed with discharge at week 9, scan was fine. Then 12 week scan was fine. Starting really bleeding last week (14 and a half weeks) which was heavier and was very scared it was a miscarriage. Scanned and everyone ok again and checked cervix and tests come back ok.

I am still slightly bleeding now but blood is brown (from last week).

Just wanting to know if anyone has gone on to carry successfully to term with a healthy baby? I am just so anxious at the moment and I can’t help but feel like something will go wrong. :(

Bumping your message again.

Not the same but pregnant with my second - I had big bleeds at 14 weeks and then another week of on off brown bleeding at 16/17 weeks. I’m now 20 weeks, had a healthy scan 10 days ago and haven’t had bleeding since. I also had no bleeding in my first pregnancy.

I also had the checks on my cervix, the last one they found a cervical ectropion - it is worth going back to get rechecked.

Hope this gives you some reassurance x

Thank you so much for your reply. I am so glad your pregnancy is progressing good! Gives me reassurance!! I am going to insist on getting checked again. I have called EPU several times over the last two weeks. (I did get an emergency scan at 14 weeks and all was fine, along with cervix apparently) I’m currently 16 weeks today and still bleeding slightly (brown blood, sometimes mixed with a tinge of red) (only when wiping going to the loo, nothing on a pad). The nurses on the phone aren’t interested unless I’m soaking through a pad with bad pains. I feel like the covid - 19 situation has made them totally reluctant to see anyone and I am massively anxious.

Throughout this pregnancy I have abdominal pains (which I’m assuming is down to growth , fingers crossed) it’s just been hell for me!! I have a midwife appointment over the phone on Thursday but I feel like I need to see her face to face to have some kind of reassurance!

I did with ds1! Found out I was pregnant at 8 weeks as I had what I thought was a period. Then bled at 10 weeks, big one at 13 weeks then 17 weeks then it stopped. I was so anxious throughout but all scans said it was normal. Ds2, no bleeding at all!

Pinktruffle · 12/05/2020 21:42

@LTimm27 I have had bleeding during my pregnancy too (I'm not as far along as you though). Started bleeding at 8 weeks, had a scan at EPU and everything was fine. They did an ultrasound and showed me some clots in my lining under the baby (so baby is fine) and said that it's likely I will continue to bleed. I've had more bleeding, the last was a week ago and it alarms me everyone but at least I know why it's happening. They said I only need to worry if the bleeding gets really heavy and to call them back.

The EPU nurse told me it was surprisingly common and happeneds to a lot of women.

I've had a previous miscarriage at 11 weeks so I have found it all very anxiety inducing. I'm a FTM too so I have no idea what is normal in pregnancy.

I bled all the way through with my dd (now 8) it was horrible and scary. Big bleed at 12 weeks which I thought was the start of a miscarriage. All scans were fine though and never found out the reason Thanks

Greentrees33 · 12/05/2020 22:17

Started bleeding at 14 weeks. Bled on and off until I gave birth to my premature son who died on my chest at 17 weeks and 6 days. Take care and take it easy

Toffee86 · 12/05/2020 22:42

Just to say that I also had bleeding from ~15weeks to ~30 weeks with my first pregnancy. It happened about once every week or two. I was a nervous wreck but baby was absolutely fine. I think it's more common than you would imagine. Take care x

LTimm27 · 12/05/2020 22:54

@CostaCosta @Pinktruffle @sassypants72 @toffee86 Thank you for all your lovely comments.🤍 that has given me some hope for me, I think I should just keep positive until told otherwise. 🌟

@Greentrees33 I am so sorry for your loss, that is awful💐 did you ever find out the reason this happened??

I bled throughout DS2 pregnancy. I'd already had 3 losses so was always worried.

I remember around 17 weeks i sat up and it was just a massive pool of blood. I went and had a scan and I can't remember word for word but it was somthing to do with the placenta moving and apparently the blood trapped behind it moving.

DS2 is now a healthy 3 year old x

coffeeorwine · 13/05/2020 06:52

@LTimm27 do ring them if you have abdominal pai n too, I had back pain too, I was honest and said I thought it could just be working from home in a rubbish chair but they were happy to check me over. Sorry you’ve found your EPU less willing & glad we can reassure you, I was also told it was more common than you think so keeping everything crossed for a healthy pregnancy for you! X

LTimm27 · 13/05/2020 09:08

@coffeeorwine I have called EPU practically every other day saying I am still bleeding and have painful cramps but because of covid 19 they don’t want me to come in and monitor me. I am at abit of a loss with them to be honest

@ltimm27 I’m not surprised - that’s really disappointing! Try and get hold of your midwife, get her views. When do you move over to MAC? (It seems to vary by area) as I found my EPU pretty poor but MAC much better.

I had brown bleeding on and off for 2 weeks and they said after they found the cervical ectropion to come back only if it worsened, so if it is that, it might just be taking some time to clear through. Keeping everything crossed for you. Try to rest if you can x

LTimm27 · 13/05/2020 18:36

Hi guys,

Thank you for all your help. I went to the EPU again and just got out, scan was fine and baby was fine too. Turns out I have cervical ectropion, that’s why I have been bleeding. Hopefully settles soon but my may not. I have it due to pregnancy hormones.

Thank you for all your comments x

@LTimm27 I went to A&E at 11+6 due a bleed, was checked and everything was fine. Went for a private scan the same day and baby okay. Bleed behind the sac spotted.
At 12 weeks (the following day) had a follow up with EPU and a scan, all fine.
Had my official 12 week scan at 12+3, Baby fine, bleed behind sac still there.
At 13+1 had another bleed, went to A&E and spent the night in hospital. Scan and examination was fine. Diagnosed threatened miscarriage.
I'm now nearly 14 weeks and still bleeding, have been since 11+6 but apart from the 2 trips to A&E it's always been brown blood.
I really hope it stops soon, looking forward to 16 week midwife appointment where hopefully I'll get to hear the baby's heartbeat!!
I have to go back to hospital if blood turns red again.
Hope you are okay.
