Had one last week. A bit uncomfortable but not painful and nothing to worry about :)

ACNHaddict · 06/05/2020 11:37

I had to have a dildo cam scan with dc2. I hated it tbh but wouldn’t have had it done unless it was absolutely essential

I’ve had them, it’s honestly not that bad! Much less uncomfortable than a smear. The scan probe is quite narrow.

bee222 · 06/05/2020 12:05

I’ve had loads. The probe doesn’t cause any pain and I don’t find them uncomfortable - it’s not very big. I had a male technician perform mine yesterday - felt a bit weird at first but then remembered a lot more people are probably going to get a closer look at my vaginal when I give birth. They give you a sheet to cover yourself and they just quickly pop it in.

bluebell94 · 06/05/2020 12:07

My early viability scan was internal and it was absolutely fine, not uncomfortable at all for me and I was all covered up.

Persipan · 06/05/2020 12:09

I had tons of IVF so I've had more than I can count. They're fine!

itmusthavebeencoffee · 06/05/2020 12:25

I've had one, it was proper weird but not uncomfortable at all. Loads of lube! They'll give you a sheet to put over your legs. I just did some deep breathing and tried not to make eye contact Grin

Bienentrinkwasser · 06/05/2020 12:29

Word of warning - it’s weirdly warm as they pre-warm the lube. Makes you feel a bit like you’ve wet yourself.

lollipoplola · 06/05/2020 14:25

I'v had them. It's uncomfortable at worst. As others have said the wand isn't very thick and they put lube on it.

Peachy200 · 06/05/2020 14:57

I’ve had 2, it was completely fine.
If you’re worried about modesty, I thought I’d feel awkward but at the time I was more concerned with seeing everything was well than caring if the sonographer saw my vagina. They give you a small sheet to cover yourself, and the sonographer focuses on the screen rather than the wand anyway. Honestly I was so happy to see baby moving I would’ve happily stayed there all day Grin

If it’s the possibility of pain - It doesn’t hurt, the wand is thin and barely goes inside. If anything, was the amount of lube that gave me the most discomfort 😂 (they do give you wipes for afterwards, but it travels down you once you’ve left the scan)

sel2223 · 06/05/2020 15:02

I had one, it was absolutely fine.
Less uncomfortable than a smear.

Miffy2020 · 06/05/2020 15:29

I've had a few. Tbh I would rather have internals than normal scans! I find a normal ultrasound painful on my tummy. I had this fear before my first one but honestly nothing to worry about!

justkeeprunning5 · 06/05/2020 16:24

I’ve had more than I can count (various gyne issues & IVF) and they are absolutely fine. They don’t even need to look up there, just insert the probe and off they go. It’s strange for me to now have abdominal ones!

Honeybee85 · 06/05/2020 16:37

I have had a few, not pleasant feeling but not painful either. Only time they did something 'down under' during pregnancy that hurt me was a sweep. Don't worry about the scan.

Lozz22 · 07/05/2020 01:43

I've had a fair few during my PCOS checks and had another 6 during my pregnancy. 3 during the normal scans another 1 to confirm my miscarriage and another 2 to make sure everything had passed. The only bit I found uncomfortable is when the wand moved to check my ovaries. It wasn't painful just gave me a period cramp like feeling but it always does on the PCOS ones too. And to be honest I find the internal ones more bearable then normal ones. For a start off you aren't lying there trying not to piss yourself. I know when I had the external one. I nearly shot of the bed when she pushed the probe down onto my tummy cos I thought I would wee myself. I was inwardly praying they'd need an internal just so I could relieve my bladder
