Hello mums, I'm 16 weeks tomorrow. Three weeks ago we were told there's a 1:15 chance of downs syndrome. We decided to go for the CVS,but they couldn't do the procedure because the placenta was in the wrong place. A week later we went for the amneocentisis. Today another week later we were expecting the realists but instead told my sample was contaminated with blood and will have to wait another two weeks for results, with a risk they may not get one. I'm so scared I'm moving along in my pregnancy without a sure answer. I have a high risk because I'm 37 with a low PAAP-A reading. Not is fine and baby growth all good, but I'm beside myself waiting.has anyone experienced this. Is there a chance they not get a reading. Should I now go for a harmony test just in case?the. results would be due the same date for thaton't know what to do. Any adv

If you can afford the harmony test then I'd do it ASAP

Oh I would be tearing my hair out. How unlucky. I would not be wanting to do another amnio. Hope you get results through. If they can't work with the sample look at NIPT/Harmony tests. Issue with that might be that it will say there is a high chance too and you will have spent £400 and no further forward as it doesn't diagnose. That is a tough one. Crossing fingers you get a clear result back and will know for sure. Xxx

Hi, sorry you’ve had such a bad time with the testing! Very stressful.
I’m not sure what the funding situation is where you are but I think it may be worth making a wee bit of a fuss to see if they’ll organise NIPT for you for free? I’d just call the midwife/doctor back and explain to them that you’re really struggling with the waiting, there’s already been a delay and it’s really impacting your mental health. Tell them you’d like the option to get the NIPT test underway already. Have you asked what their plan is if the amnio result doesn’t come through at all?
Even in places where NIPT isn’t usually funded there is often ability to fund it in special circumstances, it would be worth exploring.
If that isn’t an option they should be able to talk through your situation - the specialist midwives are usually very supportive and can help you get through this uncertain time.
Good luck x

Sorry - just re read your message and actually it’s not clear to me whether the NIPt has been offered to you already? If you can get it for free I would do it, and if you’re in a position to pay for it I’d probably do it too. It will make it much easier to get through the next couple of weeks knowing for sure that an answer is onthe way. X

TgAnks for your replies. We would have to pay for it. Someone has lent us the money and I don't mind about the money for peace of mind. The bank holiday means we may not get an answer until after the amneo results, but if there's a chance the amneo results don't work, then at least we would have an answer. If they do work, then it seems a bit silly, but I don't want to be in the same position again next week if the sample isn't reading anything. It's hard to know what to do!
