Fibroids and pregnancy

Does anyone have any experience of these and could share any positive stories?

They found 3 at my 12 week scan (all far away from the cervix) - one was just over 5cm so I was booked for growth scans at 33, 36 and 39 weeks.

Fast forward to now and now 28 weeks - had my midwife appointment this afternoon and was told she wouldn't measure me cos the fibroids can distort the measurement. I've been anxious all the way through about movement and growth so asked if she would anyway just for my own peace of mind and she said no. I understand why but I've come away from the appointment not feeling reassured at all and just a bit concerned that we won't have any indication whether baby is growing properly for another 5 weeks...

Hi hun have you been under consultant care as well? Have they said if u need anything in particular for Labour?

I have large fibroids which were picked up during my first pregnancy. I had extra scans and consultant care led but they found because of the position it wouldn't affect labour anyway, they just kept an eye on where the fibroids were and the sizes etc. Baby came out normal size, he weighed 7lb 5oz.

I would like to think if the baby wasn't an expected size they would tell you. It's a shame they haven't been reassuring but it sounds like the baby must be ok if they haven't said anything specific x

@Cherryrainbow I've had one appointment with the consultant - he just booked me in for growth scans and that was it. The midwife at my 12 week appointment was fairly convinced they wouldn't affect the labour and birth (the large one is on my uterine wall and nowhere near the cervix) so I guess I just have to be guided by that. At my 20 week scan the larger one had actually shrunk a bit so it was going in the right direction!

The midwife today had a good feel of everything and said she didn't think he felt small so I guess I should be positive. (People asking me "where my bump is" don't help either!) I just feel like I've waited all these weeks for the reassurance just to get nothing out of it.

Following with interest - I had one found at a private scan at 8 weeks, just waiting for my 12 week scan now to know what it may mean for me! I've done a lot of googling but it seems the location makes all the difference so until I know that there isnt much point speculating.
Did you know you had them before? I have had a lot of scans for other reasons over the past few years and no one mentioned them, so I assume it must be quite new!

@Whiffle77 I had no idea I had them at all until I was pregnant - I don't know whether they've always been there, whether pregnancy has flared them up or whether they're the result of pumping myself full of hormones for IVF treatment. I think if I'd had them before the hospital that did the IVF would have mentioned something so my best guess is that they're pregnancy-related in my case!
