Pregnancy weight gain

Hi

First off let me just say this isn't coming from a place of vanity! I know I'm supposed to gain weight and very much welcome it to care for my baby.

But when I had my son 2 years ago I gained a lot more than I should have so just trying to manage it a bit better this time.

I'm currently 21 weeks and had been keeping steady weight gain wise at about 6 lbs ( according to my scales 3 days ago)

I popped on this morning and it's gone up to a 11 lb gain! I'm fine with that in general but it seems like such a leap in such a short time when I've been eating quite healthy and making sure I get moving.

Has anyone else experienced such a jump in a short time?

It could just be water retention or something like that for it to jump so high in short space of time, I'd probably weigh again in a couple of days to see.
6lbs is very good for 21 weeks, at 21 weeks I had a 10lb gain, like you I'm trying to monitor to make sure I don't put on too much! 27 weeks now and I've gained 16lb

I gained 5lb in my first trimester and then two weeks into my second trimester, I put on 5lb in a week!! 😫
I posted my concerns as well but the two weeks following I've only out on 2.75lb total, so like @jdy123 said, water retention plays a massive part I reckon!

I've put on just under 16lb in total to date. I know my weight gain is on par for my starting weight, so I'm pleased with that 👍🏻

Thanks for the replies 😊 I didn't even think about it being water retention! That's probably it

I ate really healthily throughout my pregnancy until the 8th month when I was a bit depressed so started eating lots of junk food. I gained 4kg of unnecessary weight in this month bringing the total up to 16kg.

I lost the first 12kg in the month after the birth, it was all baby and water retention. The last 4kg were very stubborn and took 6 months to come off.

If you're genuinely eating healthily and avoiding junk food then it's probably just a lot of water weight so don't worry about it at all Smile. 11 pounds at 21 weeks sounds perfectly fine to me.

Thank you! That's re assuring, just want to make sure I'm making healthier choices this time round rather than eating for four like last time 🤦🏼‍♀️

Don't get me wrong though if I want the odd Jaffa Cake I'm going to have it 🙈
