HCG level 1245 means?

I am well was around 6 weeks pregnant and might have had a miscarriage. The hospital rang and said my HCG level is 1245. What does this mean? I've started to doubt my pregnancy like it was all in my mind. Can this prove I was pregnant? I had 2 positive tests but since they said it was a pregnancy of an unknown location I keep thinking I was imagining it. I haven't passed anything big for it to be a miscarriage and don't feel pain for it to be ectopic.

2 positive tests and that level of hormone - you were/are pregnant. Pregnancies in an unknown location aren't viable - I had one/an ectopic last year. The hormone sometimes increases but not at the rate of a viable pregnancy, and the miscarriage/bleeding for me was like a longer heavy period, no massive clots etc. I also didn't have any pain that would have been associated with an ectopic.

Keep in touch with your EPU if needed - I ended up needing methotrexate as I didn't lose all of the tissue myself.

The number itself means nothing about viability. It means that when that test was taken, you had pregnancy hormone in your system. Hcg is expected to at least double every 48 hours, so you'll need bloods taken 48 hours after the first set.

It's a worrying time, but nothing you do or did will affect the outcome, whichever way.

The number does indicate that you are pregnant but it needs to be repeated in 48 hours. If it doubles that indicates that the pregnancy could be viable. Have you had an internal scan?

faithfulbird · 07/05/2020 21:08

Yeah I had an internal scan and couldn't find anything. They rang back on Monday and said my HCG had dropped to 239. That's what tore me apart and it really hit me. I was just concerned why they couldn't find anything on the scan 3 days before. No sac nothing. I hadn't even bled bled prior to that scan.

Sorry that you've had a miscarriage OP, I hope you have support at home x

Hi OP sorry for your loss. I’ve had quite a few miscarriages. With a couple of the early ones I’ve been scanned after a couple of days bleeding with nothing found. I’ve definitely had losses where there wasn’t huge amounts of blood or clots - if I hadn’t had positive pregnancy tests I might have thought it was a heavy period. Hope your EPU continue to support you.

Sometimes your body absorbs the products of conception and that’s why there was nothing to see on scan but also no bleeding. I had a similar experience when I had a blighted ovum, your body still thinks your pregnant but there’s no fetus forming. Sorry for your loss Flowers

Very sorry to hear this. Be kind to yourself.
