Hey guys,

I had my gender scan today and was told we are having a baby girl. Got home and I have started bleeding bright red blood. Rang midwife and she said unless it gets very heavy try and stay away from a&e (I live in London) I am so worried. It is there each time I wipe but not super heavy. Praying it stops. Has anyone else had this and been ok? So upset right now. I dont have any cramping or anything with it :(

Hi smartie

Congratulations on your baby girl!

Can you phone your local maternity unit? They might call you in to be checked.

I had bleeding at different times throughout both of my pregnancies and went on to have healthy babies. I think if you saw a healthy baby and heartbeat today it would be unlikely for anything to be wrong this afternoon. Please call your maternity unit in hospital and see what they say. Best of luck x

Crunchiecravings · 02/05/2020 18:18

I mean call your maternity unit instead of your community midwife as the hospital might ask you to go in to be checked x

Smartiex · 02/05/2020 19:18

Thank you for your message xx I really hope so its just worrying as its bright red.

I just called the maternity unit they told me the same :( only able to go to a&e at this point. Called a&e and it's a 3 hour 40 min wait currently. Think I will stay at home and rest hope for the best and see how things go. If things get worse I will have no option but to go. X

Congratulations on your baby girl! I can completely understand how worried you are, would they perhaps see you on the maternity ward if you called the hospital and asked to be put through to them? That way you could avoid a&e?

I'd lay down, drink some water and wait and see if it eases in the next few hours but if it continues I'd probably go to a&e if the above isn't an option. If it was a problem with your placenta or anything I'm sure they would have seen it on your scan, it could perhaps be something like an irritated cervix. The blood vessels on the cervix can get very sensitive during pregnancy because of all the hormones and can easily bleed. Are you having any pain or cramping at all?

Thinking of you and hoping it eases off soon

Thanks
Hannah1990x · 02/05/2020 19:25

Sorry just seen you called maternity unit already xx

SpillTheTeaa · 02/05/2020 19:33

Congratulations on your baby girl!
I bled heavy red blood at 12 weeks I was petrified and no one would see me as I had my 12 week scan in 4 days time. I went for a private scan that night, is that an option for you OP?
Thankfully everything was fine. I also had no cramping but the sonographer said it is just one of those things sometimes and it can happen for no reason

Crunchiecravings · 02/05/2020 19:34

Good luck smartie. I’ll be thinking of you xxx

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 02/05/2020 22:14

I have read stories like this before where people have bled after scans - I believe they can irritate the area especially if they have to press hard onto your abdomen. Hope it stops soon for you, sending you a big hug.

Smartiex · 03/05/2020 07:50

Thank you everyone for your replies x

Bleeding is very light now looks like watered down blood and not coming out as regular. I am going to try and call the EGU today and see if they will let me in without having to sit in A&E first. If not I will have to find somewhere private and pay. Still so worried but nice of you all replying for reassurance really appreciated. I will update you once I have a scan x

It’s a very good sign that you have no cramping or clots. Take care and have a nice chilled day.
Just as a side note, gender predictions at 16 weeks are very often incorrect. I’d really recommend you get a 2nd opinion after 20 weeks. xx

AlviesMam · 03/05/2020 09:19

@Smartiex hi , I had spotting after my 12 week scan. EPU mentioned the pressure from the scan probe can sometimes disturb things x

Smartiex · 03/05/2020 09:39

Thanks everyone - got an emergency ultrasound at hosp in 20 mins x fingers crossed it is ok xx

Hope the scan went well smartie xx

Smartiex · 03/05/2020 12:13

Thank you x

On the ultrasound baby looked perfectly fine no concerns at all. Internal gynaecologist exam showed lots of brown blood she said no fresh blood is coming out now. Cervix looked long and closed no concern. Only thing they could guess is that my placenta has grown and burst a blood vessel which has caused a bleed inside my whomb. They cant see or find anything else that has caused it and definitely hasnt bled from cervix.

Need to go back if it starts again

Thank you so much @Crunchiecravings so happy !!! X did you ever find out what caused your bleeds in pregnancy? Xx

Hi everyone,
@Smartiex I'm 15+5 and have bled twice during this pregnancy. Today, and 13+3
Both times a scan has shown the baby is fine - moving lots, strong heartbeat. Same as you, no obvious reasons at all. I don't wish it on anyone because the anxiety is just horrible every time you go to the loo, but it was heartening to find someone else going through this. Glad everything was ok when you had the scan.
x

I just wanted to pop back and update this thread in case anyone with bleeding comes back to it.
My bleeding was found to be caused by thrush - I had no thrush symptoms at all. It was found on a swab of my cervix when I went back to the hospital the second time
After two rounds of treatment, the bleeding stopped and I have a healthy 2 week old baby.

HeartZone · 06/11/2020 14:43

Congratulations! And well done to come back, offer support to others and update.

RoseGoldEagle · 06/11/2020 21:44

Aww congratulations OP! Love a happy ending! Thanks for updating the thread as well. Enjoy your newborn!
