Maternity clothes

Are maternity clothes meant to fit you throughout your entire pregnancy? I've ordered a few bits but some things look unflattering now, but will probably look nice further along, and some things looks nice now but I cant imagine they will last the rest of my pregnancy.

Online maternity shopping is a minefield 🤯🙂

I've found to so hit and miss. I don't understand the hype with H&M maternity jeans, I bought a load of dresses from BooHoo and they're all so so short and as my bump grows they'll leave as much imagination at the front as they do at the back (I even sized up), but I've had success with Dorothy Perkins!

I've mostly lived in maternity over-bump skinny jeans from new look which have lasted me right through from about 16 weeks to the end of my pregnancy. I also bought lots of jersey stretchy type tops (I think mostly from H&M) so that they would also take me through all stages. I was quite lucky as can wear jeans to work.

I know what you mean - a lot of the prettier maternity tops or dresses that are floaty or made for bigger bumps had too much of a short shelf life for me. They swamped me in earlier pregnancy and so I sent a lot of stuff back as didn't want to waste money on clothes that wouldn't look nice til 8 months or so. Glad I did now as I've been stuck in the house anyway for weeks Smile

I just bought a couple of normal shirts a size up, some maternity skinny jeans and some maternity leggings and that did me the entire pregnancy.

I have a pair of over the bump skinny jeans from New Look. I’m not really a massive jeans wearer but they’re comfortable enough. I also have some dungarees from Jojo Maman that are comfortable and nice, I’ve been wearing them since I was about 14 weeks. Got most of my maternity tops and trousers from H&M or ASOS, they were baggy to begin with but are actually getting tight now I’m 28 weeks.

Should say my pleated skirts and jersey material pencil skirts aren’t maternity but they fit over the bump really well.

I found some maternity clothing I outgrew by third trimester completely ( H&M jeans , ASOS leggings , a few tops from various places ). I don’t feel like I got abnormally large 🤷‍♀️.

I also found that some over the bump jeans and dresses didn’t fit me until closer to 24 weeks . So as I was outgrowing some clothing I was starting to fit into others .

I was lucky to get a ton of second hand maternity clothing from my sister in law so I didn’t buy a lot of pieces myself . If I had I would have been super annoyed .

When I was in the early stages of pregnancy I just sized up. I got cheap stretchy T-shirts from primark or Asda for £2 each and got like three sizes bigger than I usually do and they lasted until about 25 weeks and then I had to get the maternity clothes out.

Boohoo dresses are ridiculous. So so so short. And when the bump grows they'll just get shorter. So annoying.

But I do swear by the stretchy T-shirt's. They're so cheap and you can just buy bigger sizes and it works. The only thing I did buy was jeans from new look like the previous poster. They're comfortable. I still wear old leggings just pull them underneath my bump.

At the end of my pregnancy I found my maternity jeans didn't fit anymore but dresses, leggings , tops etc were all still fine.
Ds was 8lb12oz though and I have a short body so my bump was huge.

I find Women’s clothes hard to get right before pregnancy as all shops size slightly differently. I found this hard when I got pregnant as most stores only sell maternity online even before the corona virus so I ordered a lot that was hit or miss. I was a size 10 pre pregnancy and all my pregnancy clothes are still a size 10 (despite putting on a stone so far at 23 weeks) I personally like the h & m pregnancy jeans. There T-shirt’s seems too short though but there long sleeve tops are great. I’ve just bought a dress off boohoo and it’s the perfect length And was only a tenner, so might just be pot luck as some people say they are too short (I’m 5’2) so this might make the difference.
