Birthing Ball

Opinions on the birthing ball please. Does anyone actually feel that it helped them naturally induce labour etc? Just out of interest as my midwife told me to "get on that ball and get that baby out" ...

Looking forward to the replies xx

I used one for a bit after my waters broke to bring contractions faster but it did not do much, except for more waters to leak when I stood up lol. It was nice and relaxing though, I quite enjoyed bouncing on it during the early stage.

I hope not as I’ve just started using it and I’m 26 weeks 😲 sorry, not helpful

MsSquiz · 01/05/2020 20:51

I don't think mine helped to bring on labour, but it did end up as the only thing I could comfortably sit on when watching tv or whatever in the evenings. I couldn't get comfy on the sofa or the floor!

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 01/05/2020 22:18

I don't think it helped bring on labour but it was great for sitting on and keeping my hips and pelvis mobile in the last few weeks and I used it a lot in early labour to get as comfy as possible.

BrooHaHa · 01/05/2020 22:22

Yes, I think mine did. I was on it an awful lot at 37 and 38 weeks, bouncing (gently!) and rocking, plus rolling my hips in a circle. I was getting Braxton Hicks and would rock and bounce through them- it intensified them and resulted in more of them.

I went gave birth at 39+0, despite my mother having gone to 42 with both my sister and myself. I'll definitely be using it again this time around.

I think mine did. I started using it the on the Wednesday night. Lost mucus plug on the Thursday morning. Used again Thursday night and waters went Thursday night, had him Friday morning.

I had a ball at home as it helped my hips. My hubby used it also when he played bowling on the wii.

I loved my birthing ball. Helped with:

  • my posture
  • getting baby into best position (supposedly!)
  • sitting on it and bouncing gently helped with my pelvic girdle pain / general discomfort in the third trimester
  • sitting on it and bouncing gently helped with the first half on my labour for lots of reasons.
I could go on! Loved it. Smile

I bought one a few days ago and I've not been off it!! Although I feel as if my braxton hicks have got so much stronger and much more pressure on my pelvis - starting to wonder if it's related.

Apparently they are the best for getting baby to drop into the right position. I got one and 3 days later went into labour (pretty certain that was a complete coincidence) 😝

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 03/05/2020 19:19

I've just got one and started using it at 36 weeks, it has really helped with my hip pain I havent been waking up in agony at night.
When I bounce (only very lightly) I also feel pressure down below like its moving him down.
I will definitely start bouncing harder next week after the 37 mark 🤣
