Hi I was just wondering if anyone experience a Feeling in their shoulder thats just like irritating but not super painful? I’ve been feeling it since yesterday and so am a little worried and I don’t have much other symptoms at 8 weeks pregnant. I’m super worried to go into A&E especially because of the current covid situation.

I could be wrong but isnt shoulder pain a symptom of ectopic pregnancy? I would ring your midwife ASAP

I don't want to scare you, but should pain can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. You must get seen. Why don't you phone your GP, they are mostly still operating by phone. If no luck there then I would go to A&E.

Hospitals are very carefully separating covid and non covid patients. A&E is quiet. If it is ectopic, you need urgent treatmnet.

best of luck Flowers

@Wolfgirrl is right. Shoulder pain can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy.

Providing you've not had an early scan I'd recommend you call and speak to someone for advice. If you can't get through to your community mw then call the maternity unit at your hospital for advice.

I was thinking it might be this but since it’s my first pregnancy and I’m not very familiar with what symptoms are the ones to worry about it’s stressing me out. As I thought if it was ectopic you would get a pain in the left abdomen as well and some bleeding which I haven’t experienced :/ I’ve called the GP and hopefully I can see what to do thank you

@hana123567 how did you get on? I've had a bit of shoulder pain that started yesterday - I am also 8 weeks. Like you, it is on the top and goes down my arm (but on both sides). I did have a little bit of brown spotting at weeks 5/6 (which has now stopped). I rang the midwife about the spotting and she said it was unlikely to be ectopic unless I was having heavier brown/red bleeding and consistent pain in one side. I don't really want to ring again since she said the EPAU were only doing scans on people actively bleeding (which I am not).

Hi, I had this same worry around the same time! I was having serve neck pain and back pain going down my leg and arm. Got checked out and it was nothing. Was worried it was etopic pregnancy please get it checked out for your own peace of mind xx

I've had two ruptured ectopics and I can tell you that shoulder tip pain is pretty much the last symptom as it's a sign of internal bleeding which has reached your diaphragm- honestly you'd know about it before then as the pain of rupturing is horrendous - imagine someone trying to rip your ovaries out of your body - unable to stand kind of pain (lots of people don't bleed with ectopics either it's a bit of a misconception- mine were live though with heartbeats)

Your pain on the other hand sounds more like carpal tunnel - I had that a lot during pregnancy

@ivfgottostaypositive sorry you went through that it sounds very tough, thank you for sharing. Both yours and @franny experiences really helped to reassure me. I am usually so rational, but this one got me worried for a moment (come to think of it, sitting on a dining chair working from home for the last 7 weeks is probably a more likely cause for shoulder pain!). I have an early scan on Sunday so I will hold on till then (I will speak to someone if the pain becomes severe of course!)
