I've been getting quite anxious. I panic every so often or if I think the baby hasn't been moving as much. I'm 25 weeks, baby is currently kicking like mad but sure I will start worrying again soon! Maybe speak to your midwife if you're really struggling?

Hi, I’m 22 weeks (23 weeks on Saturday) with my first baby. My anxiety has been terrible , I worry if baby hasn’t moved as much on certain days , worry I’m sleeping too much and not doing enough exercise and harming the baby. It is debilitating, I really wish I could help you. It takes the fun out of what should be a joyful time.

Prenatal anxiety is a thing and I’m sure the current situation isn’t helping or the pregnancy hormones, and it’s likely that you’re not getting good sleep or being able to do some of the things that would have helped you enjoy this time more. Tell your midwife, see if you can do some pregnancy yoga or Pilates using the internet and practise breathing to relieve stress. I heard about a nice breathing exercise for anxious children the other day: breathe in for five, hold it and breathe out for five. Trace a finger round the fingers of your other hand as you do so i.e. up the thumb for five breathing in and exhale as you trace down the other side of the thumb for five. If you trace all the fingers of a hand that’s 50 breaths which is enough to make a difference to your heart-rate and take your mind away from the upsetting thoughts .
