Jaundice worries - please help

My little girl was born last week with jaundice. The hospital did a blood test and found that she was six boxes below the threshold for UV treatment, so said there’s nothing to worry about. However, the next day another doctor decided to test again due to her colour and found that while she was still below the line, her curve on the graph was rising in line with the threshold. To be certain another test was carried out the following day (the skin/TCB test) which found that she was now eight boxes below and the curve was on a downward trajectory.

Today I’ve just taken her for the five day heel prick test and the midwife did another skin test as she thought the baby looks a bit yellow. Turns out she’s now four boxes below the threshold and we’ve been sent to NICU for a third blood test!

I’m feeling so anxious about the whole situation - it’s hard to be told by one doctor she’s fine only to be told by the next one that she needs another test. I’m also frightened that my little girl is going to have to go through the UV treatment or suffer from complications (I read that jaundice can affect the brain?!)

If anyone has any advice I’d be really grateful as am so worried Sad

Jaundice is really common, try not to worry.
My DS looked like a Simpson for weeks! He went under the UV lights, it’s fine he just slept and looked like he was sunbathing.
A lovely midwife told us to just keep feeding to help flush his system and to get him in the sunshine as much as possible. Congratulations on your new baby x

Thanks! I’ve been told to feed her 60ml of formula every three hours to flush the jaundice out of her system. I’m stressing because while she does often manage 60ml, sometimes she’ll only take 30 or 40ml. So what am I meant to do - force feed her?!

I was told to put the baby by the window to catch the sun light

Try to sit in the sunlight with the baby as this does help. But don't worry, it sounds like you're getting excellent care and my best friend's baby had the UV treatment and it wasnt a big deal. Jaundice is so common and so treatable x
