Pregnancy Acne - help!

Hi guys

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and my skin is at an all time low..
Started getting a few spots at about 12-14 weeks, but it's just getting worse and worse and now my face is fully covered in bad acne.
I'm using face cleansers and washing my face but nothing helps.. Making me feel incredibly self conious and giving me really low self esteem.

Has anyone else suffered badly from pregnancy Acne and is there any products/treatments you can recommend that might help? And did it go away once the baby was born?

Thank you

I suffered horrendously with my skin during pregnancy and unfortunately it did just keep getting worse until baby was born. I'd contact your doctor, there's lots of creams that are safe to use during pregnancy so you don't have to suffer! My skin is loads better now baby is here so it doesn't last forever and will get better!! ☺️

Keep it simple:

Cleanse with something gentle like cetaphil
Apply acnecide cream at night (fine to use in pregnancy)
Apply spf or moisturiser in the morning depending on sun/whether you’re going out.

Acnecide will start working in about 2-3 weeks. Use sparingly as it is drying but keep moisturising and exfoliate if you get build up of dead skin. Skin will adjust after a few weeks.

Yes! I suffered terribly last pregnancy but am one step ahead for my second pregnancy and no breakouts yet this time!

  • use a gentle oil/cream based cleanser: rub throughly for one minute onto DRY skin to lift products off the skin, then use a warm flannel to gently remove, followed by lots of splashes of clean water

  • I can recommend two products that are safe for pregnancy, that have been game changers for me:

  1. ‘The ordinary’ Niacinamide & Zinc. I use it morning and night, a thin layer under moisturiser and SPF. It helps prevent my pores getting clogged. Works slowly so may need a few weeks to see difference

2. ‘The ordinary’ Azaleic acid cream: really great for calming inflammation, reducing existing spots and preventing new ones. Also balances out skin tone if you’ve found your skin is looking patchy. I use it once or twice a week as a treatment, either overnight, or for a few hours in the evening

Both these products cost under £10

Remember to wear SPF every day but cleanse really thoroughly so it doesn’t irritate your skin and blocks pores over night

Good luck x

I had the same issue. Huge cystic spots all down both cheeks and my neck straight away after my bfp. Had a phone appointment with gp who gave me Duac. Went to pick it up from the pharmacy and the pharmacist said I couldn't have it because I'm pregnant. She said to go back to gp and ask for zineryt which I did and it's worked. Apply morning and night and it's safe in pregnancy. Topical treatments have never worked for me in the past.
