Very high risk of Edwards and Patau

Hi. I had my 12 week scan on Monday and everything looked fine on the scan, NT was 1.8. Unfortunately yesterday evening I received a call to say that the risk of baby having Edwards or Patau syndrome is 1 in 5. Having spent most of the night looking through forums, the majority of people who have been told the same odds then went on to say that further tests showed up positive for one of the two. It makes me worry that “1 in5” actually means it’s more likely to be the case than what the odds suggest. Has anybody received the same odds and then gone on to have good news?
We were looking into a private NIPT. Money isn’t an issue, but the accuracy for Patau is only 94%, and I know that regardless of the result I will still be worrying about the accuracy so I’m now waiting for a referral for the needle test Sad

@Mar2014 I am sorry for your loss earlier on this year but congratulations on your new pregnancyFlowers. Thank you so much for your reply. I had a harmony test last Friday and waiting for results now but have decided to have CVS as well as apparently it is more accurate and can pick up more health issues. Could you please tell me if CVS was painful and how long did you wait for results?X

Thank you both for the messages of congratulations 💙
@Booni I had a NIPT and it came back as very high chance (99%) I think, but it is still screening. I went for an amnio at 14 weeks to be sure. This time around I had a CVS at 11+4. Looking back I wish I’d had the invasive test and not bothered with the private test. I know people have their own opinion of invasive tests but my interpretation of the risks is that there is the small percentage reported as miscarrying, but that’s within two weeks of having the test and given a lot of people having the tests have poorly babies you don’t know how many of those would have unfortunately miscarried anyway. The amnio came back after one day and the CVS took three days as they were much busier.
The CVS wasn’t painful during or after, but it was a little uncomfortable. It’s over really quickly though. As recommended in this post I took some paracetamols beforehand and wore a pad just in case there was some spotting. Have they said when to expect the Harmony results? X
