Good Morning!

I'm 33 weeks pregnant today with my first baby. I'm due to have an ELCS in the 39th week (haven't had my date confirmed yet) but that means I only have 6+? before he's here and it's starting to feel very real.

Is anyone else around the same stage? How are you feeling? Do you have everything organised?

We managed to purchase the big stuff prior to lockdown and have been ordering the other bits and pieces we need online so we're more or less there. Just need to get the room sorted now and the hospital bags packed.

You do seem to have packed a lot in that bag 😂 my babies bag has 3 sleep suits slightly different sizes, about 5 vests, 1 of which is long sleeves and goes with a pair of trousers also packed, 1 pair of socks, and a cardigan, nappies and cotton wool. My last babies were given a hat and blanket in hospital so dont think I'll take them.

@Delbelleber 😂 I thought I'd overdone it 🙈 the bag is straining at the seams! I might take a few things out. Just read so much about newborns needing changed 3 / 4 times a day due to being sick, leaky nappies etc. Think I got carried away!

I'm almost 29 weeks and I actually have everything prepared - I just want these next 11+ to go fast now as I've had an awful pregnancy Sad

@MentholChill could you be kept in longer than 24hrs with a section? Sorry I have no experience of this.

I’m thinking I’ll need breast pads and maternity pads as I remember bleeding heavily and having really leaky boobs. Again, not sure if you’ll need the latter with a section.

I’m hoping to be able to leave on the same day and to not have to go to the ward. I had 4 days in a ward with my first, but I’ve been told things have changed now and if this baby comes as easily as my first two I will be discharged within 4 to 6 hours 🤞

@Flipflops23 fingers crossed you get home same day 🤞🏼 I think with what's going on re the virus just now they'll want to discharge ASAP. With a section, you're kept in for a minimum of 24hrs. It's also my first baby so will need a bit of guidance re breastfeeding etc. That's best case scenario though, assuming the surgery is straight forward. If there are any complications with me (excessive bleeding, damage during the surgery, etc.) then I'll be kept in longer. Likewise if there are any issues with baby.

A friend of mine had an EMCS 7 weeks ago and was in for 5 nights as she lost a lot of blood and was in HDU for a couple of nights.

Yeah, I've got maternity pads 👍🏼 I didn't realise you needed them with a section but after looking it up, the bleeding is to do with placenta becoming detached which happens regardless of delivery method so CS mums bleed just the same as VB mums.

I haven't started packing my bag yet but the list is HUGE! Think I may well have gone OTT with that too 🙈 the midwives will think I'm moving in.

I had exciting news today! I was at hospital for my appointments and the consultant has brought my section date forward to the 14th which is 2 weeks tomorrow. I can hardly believe it, so exciting 😁 although that just makes me 38+2 so I hope there isn't a concern, they haven't said there is, just a combination of some little things so they said seen as they can do it sooner - they will.

Delbelleber · 29/04/2020 17:50

@MentholChill you have made me laugh with your bag packing. Also making me think maybe I haven't packed enough but I'm just so hopeful to be getting out after 24hours. I was in 3 days as standard with my previous sections and literally begging to get out.

MentholChill · 29/04/2020 18:20

@Delbelleber don't let my excessive bag packing sway you, I'm clueless 😂 that's so exciting about your section date being brought forward 🤩 bet you can't wait! You're in Scotland as well aren't you? I can't wait to get my date through, nervous but excited!

Yep I am. Having my baby at St John's. What about you?
Now I'm worried about the section being brought forward, is there something they are not telling me? I've to go in for monitoring twice a week and 2 scans before the section in 2 weeks Hmm

MentholChill · 29/04/2020 18:54

I'm having mine at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary 😊

I'm sure there's nothing wrong, they'd have to tell you if they had any concerns surely 🤞🏼 you're wee one will be fully cooked and ready to roll at 38+2 (and you hopefully won't be too uncomfortable at that point) so getting to meet him/her sooner rather than later is a win, win 👍🏼
