8 weeks - Anyone Bought Anything Yet?

I’m itching to buy something really small - just like a cute vest or teddy. Something to hide and pull out to coo over!

Having a scan in under 2 weeks time so hubby can attend so will probably wait until then. I’m due beginning of December and thinking maybe buy big sister and brother a little teddy saying that, to give them after the scan (all being well), wrap in Christmas paper and say it’s an early Christmas present. Just to confuse them! (They’re 10 & 13)

I had loads by 8 weeks 😂 I’m now 14 and bought a changing station next to me crib and clothes. I think you should buy and enjoy whenever you feel like imo x

I'm 8 weeks and haven't even considered buying anything whatsoever!!! I've had 2 losses before, 1 at 11 weeks, so wouldn't even consider it till after 12 weeks scan, if not the 20 week one.

Mucklowe · 27/04/2020 16:59

I'm 22 weeks and haven't bought a single thing!

EssElsiee · 27/04/2020 17:08

I didn’t buy anything before 12 weeks, it
Felt weird and didn’t want to ‘jinx’ anything! Perhaps I’m superstitious x

triedandtestedteacher · 27/04/2020 17:09

No. As pp miscarriage is on my mind and I wouldn't want anything hanging around

Keepingcomfy · 27/04/2020 18:04

I am doing a lot of window shopping ... furniture and prams/buggies etc. I half considered buying a little vest to use for the pregnancy announcement. I'm only 6+6 though and we have sort of decided to leave everything until after the scan

I think it's a lovely idea to buy something small OP. When I was only 6 weeks pregnant I bought a little penguin soft toy and it came with a little penguin book too. It was at christmas time and I couldn't help myself 😊

I'm 24 weeks now and I've bought a good few bits and pieces for baby including baby clothes.

Buy whatever you feel comfortable with OP😁

Buy bits whenever you feel comfortable too:) I've ordered some bits after my 12 weeks scan and will get the bigger bits later on, mainly because the nursery needs doing

ineedamiracle2020 · 27/04/2020 19:36

I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and I've bought a few bits and pieces. Spent far too long trying to get pregnant thinking it wouldn't happen for us to dwell on the what if's, although I can see why people with previous losses wouldn't want to buy anything!

Congrats on the baba x

It’s lovely to buy something small but I wouldn’t have got anything big. We went on holiday at 5 weeks which was when I found out I was pregnant and whilst there we picked up an adorable neutral knitted outfit. DH also bought baby a Liverpool FC set at around that time too! We didn’t get anything else until about 19-20 weeks however.

bee222 · 28/04/2020 00:17

I’m 7 weeks and haven’t bought a thing. After 3 pregnancies, and losing each of those at 10-12 weeks, I’ve decided not to do anything baby related until after 20 weeks. I still have the one small toy I bought in my first pregnancy hiding in the back of a cupboard.

mrs87 · 28/04/2020 07:32

I bought a few bits after my 12 week scan but it still felt "naughty" to me. After our 20 week scan about 10 days ago I've gone a bit mad. Lockdown online shopping boredom!

cookielove · 28/04/2020 07:42

I think buying anything before 12 weeks, will not change the outcome of the pregnancy however it may make you sad if the worse happened.

I bought a little outfit i couldn't resist when we were ttc and having several losses. It was fine. That is all i bought though. Current pregnancy i barely bought anything till around 30 weeks.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Umnoway · 28/04/2020 07:53

No, I bought a few things before my 12 week scan with one pregnancy and found out I’d had a missed miscarriage at the scan. Had to return home and have the heartbreaking job of packing the baby items away, wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Frazzlerock · 28/04/2020 08:31

Having had 3 MMC and 1 MC and never seemed to learn, I have loads of newborn stuff that I wish I hadn't bought.

I'm now pregnant again (9+2) and wouldn't dream of buying anything until about 20 weeks or further. I don't think I'll even be brave enough then TBH. Our baby is due at the ned of November if we get that far and nothing I've bought in the past will be suitable as it's all summer stuff.

wannabebump · 28/04/2020 08:47

I'm 12 weeks and I haven't bought anything. I'm browsing online all the time though 😂 I don't think I'll really be looking to get anything until I'm 20 weeks. The same won't be said for our parents, we plan to tell them next week, and we know they'll be mad for the shopping when lockdown is over 😂

Congrats on your pregnancy OP... if you want to buy things, buy them. It's each to their own. Enjoy it! Xx

Margo34 · 28/04/2020 08:56

Almost 19 weeks and haven't bought a single thing. Firstly, isn't it bad luck, as an old wives tale admittedly, but still...? Secondly, baby things will take up space and we will need to have a clear out first as house is small! Thirdly, having had a previous MC I don't want to risk it. Won't be getting anything until at least after my 20w scan at the earliest.

LosingtheTTCplot · 28/04/2020 12:12

I’ve had 2 healthy pregnancies but many years ago. Struggled to conceive with this one and had 4 chemical pregnancies, so I wouldn’t buy anything big or anything like that. Just a cute onesie or something. Already much further than my chemicals, so here’s hoping.

To be honest I’ve just bought a Christmas tree ornament to tell the kids, sure they will get it once they see it. Won’t give that to them until after scan though. Couldn’t find any teddies really. Xx
