Partners at scans

When does everyone think partners will be allowed to attend scans again?

I had my 12-week scan alone and was quite anxious but the sonographers excellent communication skills really helped me, it was much less time seeing the baby than a private early scan I had but to be honest I just wanted to know they were still healthy and get confirmation of my due date so I was okay with that.

My 20 week scan is the second week of June so I m expecting to still go alone, fortunately my husband parked at the hospital last time so I knew he was close if it was bad news and I would only need to get myself to the exit of the building so will be doing that again for the 20 week scan.
I'm just hoping if people remain sensible and think of everyone overall that he might be able to be there through my whole labour rather than just after 4cm as it's my first baby, i m not sure how rational i m going to be making decisions alone before that point.

@SmileyCloud completely agree with people often living in different households and the increased risk that brings.
@Aryat5 I do empathise but I think you need to be more empathetic of the risk to others. I have a small baby and had additional scans...which I attended alone as my partner could not always attend due to work. It’s not ideal but everyone has to make sacrifices and unfortunately attending scans alone is yours.

How on earth are students supposed to learn if they're not able to carry out observations? So many dim witted views on this thread.

And I say that as someone who had six miscarriages so a LOT of bad news at scans.

Haven't read all the comments but I had a scan last week. I asked very politely if I could take a short video for my partner, expecting them to say no. They were very happy to oblige and the sonographer did a proper walk through explanation of the baby / voiceover for the video, pointing out different body parts etc and also recording the heart beat. The video lasted over a minute and took place once all the medical stuff was done. This was at St Georges, Tooting. They don't normally allow it but have a different policy now because no partners are allowed at the scans (until recently I think partners were allowed, but mine never could have come as we have a toddler to take care of too).

I don’t understand why everyone’s focus is all on the scan? Partners aren’t allowed into any appointments right now, women are having antenatal education classes cancelled, postnatal support is dire, breastfeeding support is non-existent, antenatal appointments are reduced down to the bare minimum, maternity wards are being taken over to be used as CoVid wards due to already having ICU facilities, babies in neonatal units are only allowed ONE parent in to visit, despite potentially spending months there. Of all the things for women to get angry about right now, of all the horrendous things that are happening to maternity care WHY are women so annoyed and upset that their partners experience is affected and not feeling the same about their own care? Feels very much like pregnant women are expected to come second to the fathers with all the complaints about scans and almost silence on all the other areas.

My husband was allowed to the 12 and 20 week scan but he wasn't allowed to the 28 week scan (extra scans due to increased risk) and I doubt he'll be allowed to the 34 week one either. They did give me free photos though.
I think it must be hard on partners. They were allowed to wait outside the unit with no social distancing though so that made no sense. My husband choose to wait in the car but I still had to walk past a group of dad's to be.
