Anyone else addicted to smells?

This is my second pregnancy and I had this in my first too but not quite as extreme - I just can’t stop smelling bloody cleaning products. Every few days there’s a new product I’m “into”. I’m 35 weeks and had this since about 28 weeks. So far I have been through
Bouquet zoflora
Pine disinfectant
Furniture polish
Flash floor cleaner
Domestos bleach spray
Bleach
Ace laundry bleach
Hand sanitiser

I absolutely love going out to get new cleaning products with my shopping. I like to read all the different ways you can clean with them.
My top favs at the moment are the ace laundry bleach and hand sanitiser - can’t find any hand gel with the situation but have managed to buy a pack of hand sanitising wipes, can’t stop wiping my face and hands and sniffing them.

I’ve ordered a bottle of isopropyl alcohol from amazon which is the main ingredient that I’m smelling. Will probably put it in a spray bottle for my counter tops Grin

Every night after I’ve finished cleaning everything up I mop the floor in either bleach or disinfectant and I put a big dollop of it in the sink (not mixed) with boiling water so the smell wafts through, my husband is sick of the smell of chemicals but i can’t get enough.

I also love spraying polish on my radiators then putting them on for half hour so that my living room smells of it.

Does anyone else have this??

I’m also loving things like cheap nail varnish (I’ve been sniffing my daughters kiddy nail polish) and nail varnish remover, it’s like heaven Grin

Yes I had this and 8 years on it still there. Not as bad but I still crave smells. Clean fresh smells, baby bath, radox. My mouth is watering now lol. My bath sponge is another one, I’ll sit and sniff it in the bath. I used to go round the supermarket when pregnant and smell all the baby bath stuff, the night time baby bath was a favourite.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 24/04/2020 17:47

I had this! I also had the insatiable urge to chew on freshly washed flannels. I looked like a goat 😂

summerrose11 · 24/04/2020 17:47

Yes I was the same. There was a certain fairy liquid I used to love was obsessed by it

Sendhelppls · 24/04/2020 18:01

Forgot to mention either lenor blue or fairy fabric softener as well, I always put way too much in my wash then sit there sniffing it 😂 but at the moment it is more bleachy and sanitising smells

I've had it with all my pregnancies. First was the white comfort fabric softener, 2nd was shake and vac and this time is the smell of soap on my bath sponge. I also love the feel of squeezing the water out my sponge then the feel of water soaking back in to it 😂

kittykat7210 · 24/04/2020 18:17

Yep. I like rubber at the moment, or lemon scented products. I smell hot water bottles, wellies, door mats etc, and I have lemon scented wipes that I’m obsessed with 🙈 xx

Yes!!! I'm afflicted to fresh linen zoflora, pine disinfectant, wax melts, anything fresh smelling. I had a really poor sense of smell before pregnancy. I actually said I was craving the pine disinfectant smell. I'm 22 weeks and this has went on the past few weeks.

SmileyCloud · 24/04/2020 18:30

I craved dish washer tablets, the chalky lemon ones or washing machine pods, I really had to talk myself out of just popping one in my mouth. Lemon zing zoflora was another thing and the green radox bubble bath, I’d eat the bubbles and keep all the empty bottles so I could sniff them when I needed, I never craved anything else just smells, it was nuts I’d think about them constantly!!

Sendhelppls · 24/04/2020 18:33

@snch there’s something about the pine disinfectant isn’t there, it’s just such a strong clean smell. I smell it straight from the bottle and I’ve made up a spray of half and half disinfectant and water and use it every evening for my counter tops, cupboards, floors etc. A few days ago I disinfected all of my walls and skirting boards with hot water and pine, my house smelt bloody lovely

it’s also things like lighter fluid, solvent smells etc. I heard lighter fluid can make your sink come up really shiny Grin

And I’ve just read the back of my ace laundry bleach which says you can use it to mop with and clean surfaces so gonna give that a go too 🤣

Swishing with listerine mouthwash is also a hit with me, so fresh

My husband has bought a new pair of trainers and my mouth waters at the thought of smelling them. I nearly came downstairs at 11pm the other night cos i couldnt stop thinking about them. They are losing the strength of smell now :-(

JuniorMumto1 · 24/04/2020 18:39

Not pregnant but the smell of johnsons baby shampoo fills me with such joy. Whenever I wash dc hair I spend hours doing what I can only describe as aggressively smelling their hair at every chance I get Grin

Snufkins · 24/04/2020 19:19

38 weeks and I crave the smell of petrol, I went out to open the fuel cap on my car today so I could wipe inside with a paper towel. I keep it handy when I need a sniff (but it’s not strong).

Fishfingersandwichplease · 24/04/2020 21:25

Ooh yeah l remember this almost getting high on floor cleaner!!

Sendhelppls · 24/04/2020 22:26

@Snufkins yes I’m also a fan of petrol at the moment! Unfortunately my car is diesel which isn’t quite as good as petrol 😂 but I do enjoy going to the petrol station!

DH has just popped out to the shop so I’m sat here sniffing furniture polish, he’d tell me off if he saw me 😂

Oh yes. My first pregnancy I was tempted to spray Pledge on myself as perfume, I loved the smell so much!!

JoanJettPack · 24/04/2020 22:44

I had this with all 3 pregnancies. First pregnancy was shoe polish and pine disinfectant. I really wanted to eat the shoe polish. It was a bit strange.
It was tarmac over DS2. They were doing roadworks on a busy A road, about 3 miles from where I used to live. I used to drive up and down there every day with my windows open!
When I was pregnant with DS3 I couldn't get enough of the smell of timber. I was always loitering in B&Q, sniffing the wood Hmm

ANoiseAnnoys · 24/04/2020 22:49

Yes, it’s called pica - google it! I was addicted to the smell of gasoline and turpentine - I used to go and have a quick sniff of turps when pregnant and it would make my mouth water! I also used to be addicted to the “crunch” of carrots and would eat a bag a day!

Some women eat dirt and all sorts. It’s due to heightened senses I think.

Lemonysherbet · 24/04/2020 22:58

Yessss! Chlorine and nappy sacks

looondonn · 24/04/2020 23:07

The inside of old books in library's

Was insane just couldn't stop

Dingdongthewitchisbread · 24/04/2020 23:16

I don’t have the smell thing but I can’t stop eating the bubbles from washing up liquid! It’s meant to be related to a nutrient deficiency, which seems to be accurate in my case as I’m severely anaemic. I wonder if it’s the same for smells.

friskybivalves · 24/04/2020 23:46

In my second pregnancy I couldn't get enough of superdrug tea tree toner. Would practically snort it. Now I can't stand it.
