Private scan - are clinics open?

Hi! I has a MMC last year and found out at 12 week scan that there was no heartbeat and the baby had only grown to 7 weeks. I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and I'm constantly checking symptoms and worrying - I have lots of cramp and I was a bit sick but now I'm not 🤷🏼‍♀️. Anyway - I was wondering if private clinics are still doing viability scans during this time? I feel like if I can get a scan in the next few weeks it'll relax/prepare me for what's to come - I don't think I can sit out another 6 weeks of anxiety! I am in the UK by the way Smile thanks!

Sorry to hear that op, but congrats on your currently pregnancy. I'm currently 7 weeks after 2 previous losses, and 9yrs TTC.

Have you asked your GP if they would organise a viability scan at your local EGU? When I had my last loss, the EGU Dr said that if/when I'm pregnant again, they would do a viability scan at 7-8weeks- if referred by my GP. I don't know if that is common, due to my older age or previous losses, but be worth asking about before paying. I had mine on Tuesday. EGU were open, but spacing visits out so only 2 ladies in their waiting room at 1 time. Staff were all gowned/masked up also.

As for private clinics, you'd need to check each in your local area and whether they are open. I've been looking up places for the NIPT. I'm central London, and some aren't open at all. 1 doesn't open till early May, but you can't have the NIPT till 10 weeks anyways, so that works out.

Have you looked up places local to you?

Hey! Congratulations Smile
Most clinics seem to be open for 'reassurance' scans which I think this would be in your case. They just don't seem to be doing the 4D/ gender scans.

I know Window to the Womb are offering early reassurance scans and they will also allow a partner to attend.

Have a google search of your local ones, most will post on their website/ fb page if they are open and which scans they are offering xx

@Elouera have you tried the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley Street?

Elouera · 24/04/2020 17:26

@Connie222- Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I did look at that one in Harley St, but they send the samples to the USA! This obviously adds extra days to the turnaround time (possibly even longer now!), and there is the possibility of it going missing. I'm actively looking for places that test within the UK, but thanks.

Yes a lot are. I had a reassurance scan at 10 weeks this week at Window to the Womb

@Elouera no worries. I had mine there - I got the results by email 6 days later (went back for the face to face consultation and 12 week scan two weeks later). But yes, it may take longer now.

This company seem to have sites across the UK. They are the ones not opening till early may, but that might just be the London ones.
