Just been out for my daily walk. I keep two metres/6 foot away from anyone at all times, and wash my hands when I get home, as well as not touching anything. I need to get out every day for at least half an hour for my mental health.

I’ve noticed as my bump is growing that people feel the need to look me rudely up and down and stare - are they thinking I should just be at home??? They aren’t looking in a ‘aww that’s nice, she’s pregnant’ way; it is definitely judgemental. I nearly asked someone earlier what the hell she was looking at!!

Is it unreasonable to want a daily walk? I’m peed off at being looked at!

No course not! Everyone needs that little bit of normal during this time! I also get stared at like I have the plague when I go to the shops! We're sticking to the lockdown rules. Some people just think there better than everyone else and nobody should be allowed out apart from them! Hope your well x

Birdy1991 · 24/04/2020 16:46

@MummyOf1LO thank you - how far along are you? I’m glad it’s not just me tbh! It’s a horrible time to be pregnant and I’m anxious cos it’s my first. Hope you’re doing ok too x

Does a bump grow significantly in 4 weeks?

MummyOf1LO · 24/04/2020 17:12

@Birdy1991 I might have wrote that wrong ! I'm not pregnant but I was meant to say when im shopping with my little one ! I'm a single mum so there is no one else and I was the same I only have one child such a crazy nerve racking but amazing experience right ! X I was 18 when I had mine haha x

lockdownpregnancy · 24/04/2020 17:50

I'm 17 1/2 weeks and walk my dog everyday.
If I have tight clothes on you can tell I'm pregnant and I get looked at like I'm a piece of shit!
I have a similar route and similar time every day and all of a sudden people are appearing out of now where that I've never seen before, but from the way they look at me it's like I'm in the wrong for walking my dog whilst pregnant! God forbid me and pooch need get our exercise.
Some people are just dickheads 😂😂

snch · 24/04/2020 18:21

I needed to a food shop at Asda today the queue was twice the length of the car park it was warm and I had my water bottle and a cap on and people looked at me like I was crazy didn't let me in front tho 😂

BlanketBlue · 24/04/2020 18:38

I'm 28 weeks and I had a woman STARE at me today, just following with her gaze for a full minute! I nearly turned round and stared back at her! I've no idea what people's problems are about pregnant women getting exercise!! (And i too am keeping my distance and not touching anything).

123456kent · 24/04/2020 18:48

I dont find this at all! I find people are looking at me with sympathy and smiles and being so nice at avoiding me at all costs. It makes me sad I need sympathy at the moment but it’s nice people are so kind (i’m 40 weeks)

bengalcat · 24/04/2020 18:51

I expect people are looking because they erroneously think all pregnant women should be shielded ie at home . Not correct .

Birdy1991 · 24/04/2020 18:56

Mixed experiences then! But looks like it’s not just me. @BlanketBlue that’s exactly what I experienced this afternoon, I walked off and her head turned to follow watching me down the road. Creepy! We can get through this. 😊

I actually had a cashier at Tesco tell me I should be at home and I'm putting my baby at risk by being out the house / she kept pointing to my bump and saying you really should be at home.

I was mortified, my husband is isolating in a different property to minimise risk as he is a frontline worker, I needed food as I couldn't get a delivery.

Took all I had not to burst into tears.

lettersbyowl · 24/04/2020 19:08

Before the social distancing and lockdown I had people at work tell me I was putting the baby at risk Hmm but then since lockdown, people I've seen on walks have been really nice, asking if me and baby are keeping well and if we have everything we need? I think sometimes it blows peoples mind a bit to think oh gosh babies are still being born into this, hence the mindless stares Grin plus people love staring at a bump like loons

Queenoftheashes · 24/04/2020 19:10

@lightningmcqueen20 next time be like oh poor you, a medical doctor having to moonlight as a tesco cashier!

HelloViroids · 24/04/2020 19:22

I’m 26 weeks and going for a walk everyday, taking all measures re social distance and hand washing etc but paranoid about losing all my physical fitness (the little that I have!) and not being able to do active labour. So anyone judging can piss off frankly, they are not going through pregnancy in a pandemic.

Nelbert19 · 24/04/2020 20:14

Aw I’ve had the opposite - lots of smiles and hellos to the bump when I’m out with the dog. I feel like people like to see some happy news, even though the rest of the worlds on fire!

Cherryrainbow · 24/04/2020 21:39

I had an incident where a cashier made a comment about me being pregnant and out. Just to mess with them I put on an offended face and said "excuse me?! Pregnant?! Do you say that to all fat customers?" Haha was worth it to see the oh crap oh crap series of expressions on their faces haha.

N12345625 · 24/04/2020 22:19

I am only 11 weeks so haven't got a bump yet, but am so worried about people reacting in a negative way when I start to show :(
