Hi everyone, sorry I’m advance for the long post 😕

This is my first time posting on here and I just need some advice/reassurance.
I’m 8w5d according to my LMP. Pretty sure I ovulated on 8/3/20 and LMP was 23/2/20 First confirmed pregnancy on 24/3/20 with clearblue stating 1-2 weeks. I’ve been for an early scan this morning as had some brown discharge on Monday and then a tiny bit of light pink spotting yesterday (happened once after a wee) went today and there was a baby, yolk sack, and a fluttering heartbeat but the baby seemed small how far along I am. The sonographer has scheduled an appointment for next Friday as she said it wasn’t very clear on the scan and she will be able to see more when baby has grown. I was under the impression that at almost 9 weeks it would look like a baby with features that you could make out. The yolk sack is clearly visible and then baby next to it but doesn’t look baby shaped (that’s sounds silly but you know what I mean) just looks like something next to a circle. The heartbeat was a visible fluttering.
Has anyone ever had this before?
TIA,
Amy

This was my scan at 8 weeks and 4 days if that helps? Looked like a bean and had a flickering heartbeat. He looked a lot more like a baby at the 12 week scan Smile

Hi Jen,

Thank you for replying. My scan doesn’t look like that but unsure how to post the picture on here to show you

With my dd I had an 8 week scan and she looked like a wotsit crisp. With my current pregnancy I had a 7w scan and he looked like a raspberry.
You'll get a better image at your 12w scan.

Thank you delbelleber, I’m just hoping it’s a clearer picture next week and everything is ok. Having 12 week scan in a few weeks so not too long to wait. Just can’t switch my mind off from worrying. The heartbeat was there though so that’s a good sign

I had a scan at 8+2 and baby looked like a blurry little jelly bean.....definitely not 'baby shaped' and no definable features.

Good day all,

I am new here and it's my first time expecting. I am 28 weeks pregnant today and I have a question and need some advice please.

I unfortunately do not have medical aid and have missed my abnormality blood test where they test and screen for defects and down syndrome etc.. Am I still able to have these tests done as I would just like to make sure that my baby is ok and healthy?

Please advise, many thanks.

Kind regards
Kelly, South Africa

@sel2223 yes I would describe my scan like that. Clearly defined yolk sack, clear fluttering heartbeat and a blurry jellybean like shaped baby

@KellyJ83 I would tell a doctor you're pregnant now and they will arrange the tests you need.

@AmyC2020 I think that's pretty normal at that stage and seeing a heartbeat is a great sign. I'm now 24+2 and she definitely looks like a baby now!

AmyC2020 · 25/04/2020 13:56

@Sel2223 aww lovely. You must have a lovely bump by now ☺️
Hopefully clearer at Friday's scan 🤞🏻

@AmyC2020 yes, there's a definite bump now!
I meant to say as well, don't worry too much that baby measured small as that's quite common in early pregnancy.
My first scan, I should have been 7+5 by LMP but baby only measured 6+1 then the 8+2 scan was my follow up one. I panicked but the sonographer just said I'd probably ovulated a bit later than I thought.
By the time I had my dating scan, she'd caught up by a week so is now somewhere between the two dates.
The body works in strange ways sometimes.

Elouera · 25/04/2020 14:32

I had a viability scan last week at 7+2. I was only measuring 6+2, which was a worry, because I had IVF, so fertilisation date is exact. I put a post on here asking whether others have measured a week behind, and the vast majority had, and also caught up on their next scan.

I know I'm earlier on pregnancy wise than you, but clarity on the scan depends on the magnification of their scanning equipment, age of their equipment, pixels on the screen etc etc. I had early scans abroad with other pregnancies, and I'm sure the early scans were much clearer. This weeks scan was at a fairly new, major London hospital and the monitor screen was enormous- BUT, the picture was very pixelated and a blur- except for a flickering heart. That is the most important thing to see! Don't forget, that even at 9weeks, the foetus is only 2cm long, so its still very tiny x

AmyC2020 · 25/04/2020 15:02

Yes to be fair the sonographer and nurse weren't normally based at the hospital I went to they've been moved to it as it's being classes as a 'clean' hospital due to no covid so all EPU clinics are being held at this facility. She did say she wasn't used to this machine and a little unclear on working it and it did take a while to focus etc so that hopefully explains why it wasn't as clear as I expected. Next week I should be able to see more hopefully once baby has grown and they've got more used to the equipment 🤞🏻

Congratulations on your pregnancy @Elouera 😊
