Was your second labour shorter?

Question for those who had relatively straightforward vaginal births (so not including breech/back to back) ....

Is it true that the second labour is usually shorter?

(I appreciate that more complex labours will likely take longer, so just looking for answers from those where things were fairly ‘normal’!)

Thanks guys x

1st labour: 9hrs, 30mins pushing
2nd labour (induced): 7hrs (but I went from 3cm to 10cm dilated in 1hr), 15mins pushing.

Ahitsallover · 23/04/2020 20:21

First was 8 hrs, second 4 hrs

Chillipeanuts · 23/04/2020 20:22

First, 32 hours
Second, just over 2

rainstormsunshine · 23/04/2020 20:23

1st 4hrs, second 3hrs, 3rd 36minutes 😬

4 straightforward births, all took approximately the same amount of time from first contractions to birth -
no.1 took approximately 7 hours
no.2 was about 5 hours
no.3 was also about 5 hours
no.4 was the slowest 7-8 hours (he had a really big head).

@Gerdticker
I didn't find out I was pregnant with dd2 until I was 5mths.
I went to visit my mum in her care home, I had what I would describe as period pains for a couple of days. When we were leaving my waters broke in the car park. We just made it to the hospital when dd arrived.

Hotpinkangel19 · 23/04/2020 20:28

Yes. 4th was the worst!

bananamonkey · 23/04/2020 20:33

Yes but my second was an induction.
1st 24 hours from very first contraction, about 12 hours of established labour.

2nd 1 hour 55 from waters being broken, went for a walk and got back to the room, then got in the pool just in time 🤣

redastherose · 23/04/2020 20:36

Nope my first was quicker 2 hours after going to hospital, but very quick delivery (3 pushes), second was longer but delivery took longer (about 30 minutes). Second baby was almost 1/3 rd bigger though.

Strawberrycreamsundae · 23/04/2020 20:39

First 2.5 hours, second 35 minutes (not to be recommended!)

Worriedmum97 · 23/04/2020 20:54

3 hours from 4cm when I arrived to hospital to birth of second. With first I spent 3 days in hospital with slow labour but in a lot of pain, dilation was very very slow. With third again 3 hours from 4cm to birth.

RoseGoldEagle · 23/04/2020 20:54

Yes, first labour was 24 hours, second was 7 and nowhere near as painful

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 23/04/2020 21:00

Yes by about 33 hours. It was brilliant.

kittykat7210 · 23/04/2020 21:23

My first was 4 1/2 hours 0-10cm (from first contraction)

This one I’m worried I won’t make it 😂 we live 40 minutes from the hospital and have to drop off our 2 year old with the in laws, and she takes 20 minutes + to get dressed/ready 🙈
