Handhold please. 27 weeks and bleeding

Just that. Currently in hospital, after having sudden bleeding starting at about 10pm. 27 weeks pregnant, phoned the hospital midwife, who told me to call 999.

Ambulance turned up within 5 mins, put a cannula in and took me straight to the assessment center/labour ward.

Baby heartbeat is fine, but having tightenings, and a test for showing possible premature labour came back positive.

Been scanned, don't think the blood is from the placenta or cord, but it is quite watery. Going to be given antibiotics and steroid injection asap, then reassessed in the morning, including testing for amniotic fluid.

On my own, husband looking after our 3yo DD, and in any case, not allowed in with me anyway. Had 2 losses in the last year, and am so scared something will happen to this one too.

Keeping everything crossed for you!

Wudgy · 06/06/2020 10:36

How’s all going??

BabyB19 · 06/06/2020 10:51

I've just read this whole thread with my heart in my mouth! I have everything crossed that you and your baby stay safe and well and can hang on as long as possible before making an appearance. Watching the thread on pins! Good luck OP ❤️

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/06/2020 11:04

Oh my gosh I’m totally invested now. What a roller coaster youve been through OP. Sending you and your family so much love ♥️

Vebrithien · 06/06/2020 19:55

Thank you for your lovely messages.

Currently 33w 2d, all infection markers and baby monitoring are good.

However, having lots of tightenings over my whole bump and low crampy pain. Not a lot that can be done about it, will either ramp up or tail off. Just worrying a bit, as each time this has happened before, I've ended up with bleeding. Midwife today, at my normal twice weekly appointment told me to just keep an eye on it. Could be the start of labour, could be the precursor to a bleed, could be just that I overdid it yesterday, as DD was off of preschool.

Still losing a lot of fluid every day (400-500 ml) in gushes, whenever baby moves. Maternity pads are useless, so am in incontinence pads, and still leaking through several sets of clothes a day. Thank goodness for the washing machine!

Wow, what a journey! It's great that your baby is still snug inside, and we look forward to a lovely baby photo when he/she finally makes an appearance.

Haffdonga · 06/06/2020 20:12

I've been keeping an eye out for you Smile Weren't they planning to induce you at 34 weeks? Labour or not you'll be holding this little one very soon.

Good luck Flowers

Cantchooseaname · 06/06/2020 20:49

Gosh, what a journey. Hopefully having the trauma whilst pregnant means you will get a nice chilled baby, who grows into a teen that causes no stress. Hang in there!

MrsRose2018 · 06/06/2020 22:57

@Vebrithien how did your scan go the other week? Measurements all good? How was your liquor levels? x

Vebrithien · 07/06/2020 07:19

Guess where I am again.....

Had tightenings from Friday, and then pink fluid loss last night, so had to go in. Baby happy, they suspect a placental edge bleed, just got to be monitored. Thankfully, no bright red blood loss currently.

Sigh. Was doing so well, had 2 weeks off for good behaviour.

The plan had been to induce at 34 weeks, then at my scan on Tuesday (baby estimated at roughly 4lb), my consultant booked me in for induction at 36 weeks, given I'd had a couple of uneventful weeks.

No idea what'll happen now. Probably not in labour, hopefully just waiting for this pink loss/tightenings to ease down.

Have been following your thread.

So amazing you've got to where you are. Fingers crossed baby stays put for a little longer. However if baby is safer out than in they have had all these extra weeks cooking.

Thinking of you and look forward to hearing baby is snuggled in your arms (when the time is right).

Vebrithien · 07/06/2020 09:37

Plan is monitoring, likely another scan to check placental/cord flow and fluid volume.

Quote of the day from the doctor "Oooh, you really don't have much amniotic fluid left, I can feel all of Babies bony bits!"

Fingers crossed for you!

EverythingBlue2020 · 07/06/2020 12:41

I'm 33 weeks and having period pains, and stong Braxton Hicks. No bleeding though.
Got everything crossed for you and hope it's smoother sailing from here on OP x

Vebrithien · 09/06/2020 10:05

Well, I'm back home again. Had a scan yesterday, which showed that the blood flow through the placenta and cord was all fine, and that baby's MCA (middle cerebral artery) is at the expected size, so there is no evidence thatthe placenta is starting to fail.
However, the AFI (amniotic fluid index) is now down below normal levels. Not at the level that they wanted to induce immediately, but enough for concern (6.2, should be 6.9-20, down from 8 last week)

So, I'm back to the hospital tomorrow, for another scan to look at the fluid levels. I'm losing so much fluid every day, so it'll all depend on how much baby pees to replace what is being lost.

If the level has dropped again (5 or lower) then the consultant wants too discuss seriously induction in the next week. The suspicion is that, when baby moves to the other side to normal, their feet are right next to the area of the placenta that I've been having the bleeds from/the edge of the sac where it ruptured. With no fluid to protect it, baby's feet are irritating the placenta, and causing the contractions and smaller bleeds.

33w and 5d now, and my waters went 7 weeks ago, tomorrow.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 09/06/2020 14:38

Hopefully the scan goes well, nearly 34 weeks is really good considering how long ago your waters broke.

sel2223 · 09/06/2020 14:48

@Vebrithien love reading your updates, you're doing so well and now almost 34 weeks! Brilliant!

Just hang on as long as you can little one x

goldenT · 09/06/2020 17:36

It's great you've gotten so far op and it sounds like you're getting good care from the hospital. Best wishes to you and babyFlowers

Peanut870 · 09/06/2020 18:49

Thinking about you and baby... you're both doing so amazingly!

MamaFirst · 09/06/2020 21:48

Wow you've done soo well! Thank you for the updates, we are all holding our breath for you! 🤞

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 10/06/2020 20:52

Wow, your updates are great, you are doing so well!!! Hope baby stays happily inside for a bit of time yet!!

Vebrithien · 11/06/2020 15:45

Well, this is it.

Had another big bleed this morning, and a scan has showed another bleed still trapped behind the placenta. The risk of a catastrophic bleed is now very high.

So, my consultant has decided to go with an immediate induction. I'm all hooked up and waiting for the hormone drip.

I've made it to 34w exactly, and over 7 weeks since my waters went.

Time to have a baby!

YukoandHiro · 11/06/2020 15:52

Huge hand hold. How tricky for you to be there alone.
Don't worry - 27 weeks is very survivable. And they will keep the baby in there as long as they can.
Be prepared for a potential long hospital stay.
38 years ago my mum was admitted at 29 weeks with the very same thing. I was delivered by ECMS at, I think, 32 weeks. Even back then, they were able to make sure I was absolutely fine - it's my birthday next Friday! Think how far neonatal medicine has come since then.
Hang in there. Get some rest. You and little one are definitely in the best place

YukoandHiro · 11/06/2020 15:53

Oh only just read your update!!

If you've got this far things will be great. Good luck. Nearly here now xx
