Hi,

Let me start by saying if this does not get better soon then I will be contacting my gp or midwife but just looking to see if anyone has experienced this at all.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and for the last 3 days I've had pain on my right side just under my bra area, near ribs. It mainly hurts when I move, cough, sneeze or laugh etc but I'm a little concerned. I am initially thinking pulled muscle as I've been coughing with allergies lately but I didn't feel a muscle 'go' during a coughing fit. I have previously had fatty liver so worrying about it being a liver or gallbladder issue..also worrying about icp as heard that can cause right pain near ribs? I have been itching too but spoke to midwife who said because it is all over and because I have a rash it is most likely allergies and not to worry. Anyone had this or do you think I should wait and see if it muscular or call sooner? Baby is moving fine and I feel fine other than this.

I’m 22 weeks as well & the other day I woke up with a terrible sharp pain in my left side at my back at my shoulder blade. I think I must of slept funny so I took paracetamol & tried to go about my day as normal (this was hard as any time I moved I was in agony!). However this seemed to work so it wasn’t anything too sinister. If this pain doesn’t subside with paracetamol or gets worse I would defo contact your maternity assessment as you could possibly have a pe.

This is from the NHS website.

I'd contact your midwife, better to be safe than sorry.

@MarshmallowsOnToast daft question but I wouldn't say it is severe unless I move, bend, cough etc. If I sit still I'm alright. I have no swelling yet. Thank you

I had something similar, it went on for months (not what you want to hear!! I think it was called “rib flare”. Maybe google it and see if it sounds the same? X

@ItStartedWithAKiss241 just googled and it does sound like this and I have no other symptoms of anything untoward so maybe it is that but will keep an eye on it. Did anything ease it at all for you?x

Unfortunately I never found anything that eased it until birth! I remember laying on the living room floor in the evenings it was so bad so I wonder if being stretched out? I found mine was better in the morning and got worse in the evenings. I wonder if anti-Inflammatorys may help? Are you allowed to take those to try? X
